I've now moved and am no longer next to Covent Garden (or in noisy central London) I'm at this new spacious flat, 30 minutes from Covent Garden and Tottenham Court Road station and ideally located for Tower of London and Bank station just 12 minutes away. The post code is E14 7DJ. Contemporary and stylish, converted from 150 year old school. View listing here https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/4812390 Click here to see it on Airbnb https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/4812390 Canary Wharf and Docklands is the hidden gem in London. Beautiful historic warehouses, old riverside pubs and impressive new developments enchant the wandering visitor. This is a place to explore and discover. Many historic buildings remain, including The Grapes public house, which was notably bought in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) by actor Sir Ian McKellen, director Sean Mathias and Evening Standard (daily newsprint) owner, Evgeny Lebedev. Next to The Grapes is a rare example of an early Georgian brick terrace. Nearby 'Limehouse' is often wrongly thought to be derived from the nickname for British sailors, or 'limeys'. In fact, the name relates to the local lime kilns that served shipping in the London Docks back in the 14th century. A former marshland, the area of Limehouse became a significant port in late medieval times and soon the shipbuilding, rope-making and merchant industries thrived. In (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) the Limehouse Basin opened as the Regent's Canal Dock, connecting the Thames and the canal system. Limehouse was the site of the first London case of cholera in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , while both Charles Dickens and Thomas Burke describe the area's notorious opium dens. The term 'Limehousing' means to make an incendiary political speech, and followed an attack on the House of Lords made by Chancellor David Lloyd George in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Contemporary residents include the actor Sir Ian McKellen and the journalist Matthew Parris, while celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey owns the popular gastropub, The Narrow. In the days of the British Empire, the entire area housed docks and shipyards with two thousand ships loading and unloading their goods. World War II naturally led to a lull in traffic, and the area was levelled by bombing. With huge regeneration in the area in the last thirty years, now there is a wonderful fusion of historics features like the old shipping cranes and modern architecture with modern skyscrapers from the UK’s most revered architects. Canary Wharf makes for a good mix of cultural, shopping, and food venues. Canary Wharf has a huge shopping malls, plenty of bars and restaurants) -10 min. The 50-storey One Canada Square is the tallest building in the UK and the 2nd tallest in Europe, 'Billingsgate Market, 'Jubilee Park & the award winning Gun pub are other near by attractions as well as a huge indoor mall with the latest high-street and designer brands all within very close walking distance. Ideally located to explore all of London with little hassle. Centrally located, 7 mins walk to Westferry station (3 stops into Bank/Tower Bridge), walking distance to Canary Wharf. Near River Thames.
