Cosy Victorian cottage by the Cumbrian Coast

Refurbished Victorian cottage, a short walk from St Bees beach, RSPB reserve on St Bees Head cliffs, station and the Post Office with convenience store. Garden area available to sit outside and upstairs there are views of the sea, St Bees Head and the Isle of Man on a clear day. Jenni and Anthony have chosen to furnish and decorate it in keeping with its period. However, the kitchen and bathroom both have modern fittings. A wood-burning stove can be lit for cosy evenings on chillier days. St Bees is a great location to explore both Lakes and Coast and marks the beginning of Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk. The 11th century Priory, built with local red sandstone, has a Willis Organ and display about the finding of St Bees Man - a Norman knight. The historic public school was founded by Archbishop Grindal in 1583. Whitehaven is nearby and is a planned 18th century town with a history of shipbuilding, rum trade and smugglers. The Beacon Museum and Rum Story provide popular visitor attractions. West Cumbria also has a rich heritage of both coal and iron-ore mining. The whole of the cottage - all areas are available You will be greeted and welcomed on arrival by your hosts. They live across the road and will be available for any queries. St Bees is a popular location for holidays with a good beach and is situated near to many local attractions. There are frequent trains and a station in the village - up-to-date timetables are available in the cottage. There is also a selection of maps and walking guide books, as well as other tourist information.
