Also known as Dominion Mountain Retreat, this 565 sq. foot bungalow can sleep up to 5, but is spacious and lovely for a couple. Very comfortable queen bed upstairs, with spiral stairs leading to a rooftop deck. Full kitchen, tiled bath with shower, hot tub and fire pit available for comfort outside. Hummingbird paradise in summer, especially June and July! Please note: Winter Access requires 4WD or AWD vehicle! The bungalow is separate from the main house, and has a rustic feel, but is very comfortable. The queen bed upstairs and both twins downstairs have wonderful memory-foam mattresses. The 6' curtained window seat is a favorite of the under 18 set. There is a full kitchen with an under counter fridge, gas range, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster and all the dishes and pots and pans you need. Our geothermal system provides heat and air conditioning, and solar panels on the roof of the main home help make this a green property. We recycle everything as well. Guests have full access to 20 acres, including an enclosed garden with lots of sitting areas, a great fire pit for campfires, a hot tub on the main house deck, a weber gas grill on the main house deck, and pasture leading up to the neighbor's horses. Guests have the entire bungalow which is separate from the main house. Access is via a fairly steep gravel driveway off of a primitive gravel road. In the winter 4WD or AWD is required to get to the house if there is fresh snow. There is a washer and dryer in the main house that can be made available by arrangement. We are rural and hence our communications are rather primitive compared with many more populated areas. That being said, we have just upgraded to Starlink! This gives us fast internet with no data caps and improved wi-fi calling capability. (Fast internet is also available at several places 6.5 miles away in Colville, including the Public Library.) Our cell service is spotty, but with Starlink, wi-fi calling has become an excellent option and I do maintain a land line that can always be used for emergencies. We have DISH network, and there is also a DVD player. I have hundreds of DVDs which are available to borrow if you like! We have contact-less entry for the bungalow (key pad with your own code) and we are usually available by text or if you knock on the door to answer any questions or lend you a special utensil. My husband and I are mostly retired, so we are frequently around to help you light a fire in the fire pit, advise you on local trails, and perhaps share margaritas on the deck. I have put together an information packet with local restaurants and things to do, and I love helping people learn more about our small community. Booking does not include breakfast, but welcome cookies and fresh ground locally roasted coffee are provided. Colville is a town of 5000 in a beautiful mountainous and forested area of Northeast Washington. There are some good restaurants, an excellent library, several good grocery stores and one store featuring organic and local food (in Kettle Falls - 8 miles from Colville.) In late summer the county fair is held in Colville, and there is another festival at the beginning of August. Farmer's markets are held twice a week from Spring through Fall. There is a community theater group that puts on plays from time to time. One of the best things about Colville is the abundant outdoor recreation that is available here. There are two downhill ski areas within 45 minutes' drive, plenty of cross country skiing and hiking, mountain biking, boating on the Columbia River and several lakes, fishing, hunting and camping all around. Since our area is rural, a car is a must. In the winter, 4WD or AWD is needed to get up my driveway. My place is about 1500' higher than Colville, so while biking is possible, it isn't an easy ride and would be on gravel roads. The only public transportation available is the Goldline Bus, which travels twice a day between Spokane Airport and Kettle Falls, stopping at communities in between (including Colville.) Colville is a small town and my place is 6.5 miles northeast of it. The drive to Colville takes only 10 minutes, but the feel of the place is decidedly rural. There is plenty of wildlife to observe - deer, wild turkey, quail, raptors, and sometimes elk. We often hear coyotes at night. I have two cats, Wild and Bandit, who both love to be petted (not allowed in the bungalow.) We are in a fire-prone area because our climate is dry in the summer, so it is necessary to be very careful with fire. Sometimes campfires are not permitted.
