Portscatho Lodge, Fab Sea Views and Dog Friendly!
Peaceful and cosy with stunning views of the sea, our wooden lodge is a special place in a picturesque part of southern Cornwall. Perfectly located for walking, stunning coastlines and fantastic food, the lodge is in a quiet area on the Roseland - close to pretty Portscatho and 15m from Truro. Guests now have free access to the beautiful pool, small gym, sauna and jacuzzi onsite (during COVID online booking required). Just 15 mins walk to a quiet, dog-friendly beach too! On the ground floor, you’ll find a big open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting room area. Looking out over the large decking and on to a dreamy horizon, this space has a very cosy and homely feel. Lose yourself in the spectacular view in the day time, star-gaze, get snuggly and play games or watch TV in the evening. Upstairs is the large master bedroom with en-suite, which has a bath and a shower. This room really is our favourite space. Wake up to see stunning sunrises over the bay - hopefully someone will bring you a cuppa in bed to help you relish it for longer! There are two pretty balconies upstairs - with large ceiling-to-floor Velux windows, one is perfect for afternoon tea, whilst the other, served by French doors, looks over the sea and rugged coastline. Here you can enjoy the morning sun and drink in that sea air. The twin bedroom downstairs is spacious with plenty of wardrobe space, as well as a cupboard full of games. There’s also a large shower room on the ground floor, of which the twin room can have sole use, if you wish. The lodge is fully equipped for home cooking and because we come here often, all the cupboards are fully stocked - simply replace anything you use up. Alternatively eating out in the Portscatho area is fantastic - the pubs, restaurants and tea rooms are all amazing, plus there’s the Hidden Hut on Porthcurnick beach which is well worth a visit. There is Freeview TV with all your favourite channels, books, heaps of DVDs, a Playstation 3, as well as indoor and outdoor toys and games such as boule, badminton and kites. NEW FOR 2020 - full superfast WiFi! Just 15 miles away, Truro offers great high street shopping and Falmouth too gives unique and fun retail therapy for those who need it. There’s a host of local gardens including Trelissick and the Lost Gardens of Heligan plus the Eden Project are very close indeed. All in all the area offers just about everything you could possibly need - we love it, and so will you! You'll have the whole lodge to yourself. The heated indoor pool, gym, sauna and jacuzzi are all a short walk away and free for your use. Children (under 17) must be accompanied as there's no lifeguard on duty. Currently the pool area is bookable via an online facility for 45-minute slots, for a maximum of 12 guests. We don’t live nearby but like to communicate regularly with our guests, before, during and after their booking to give them the best experience. We are contactable by phone and email for the duration of your stay - don't hesitate to call. The lodge is a perfect base for walking the South West Coast Path or restful breaks. Whatever you enjoy, the local area has stunning scenery, excellent food and plenty of outdoor adventures. Bringing your dog? Then this area has much to offer you. From the lodge it’s a 15min walk to Towan beach which is dog-friendly all year round. There’s also a lovely woodland walk on the site to The Quay, which overlooks St Mawes, and a small play area for children. Please pick up after your dog! Pop to the picturesque seaside village of Portscatho (5 mins by car or a 25 minute walk) where you'll find all you might need in this part of Cornwall. The Harbour Club is a friendly place for a pint and a game of pool, darts or table tennis on a damp day, the Plume of Feathers has fantastic food and the butchers sell great local meat and excellent pasties. There's the Boathouse restaurant, Tatums beachside cafe, the Portscatho stores for all essentials and some lovely galleries and boutique shops. If you do walk (or drive) to Town beach, do support the new Thirstea Co tea room. A new arrival during COVID-19, replacing the lovely tea van operated by the same small business, they sell the most fantastic snacks cakes and tea/coffee. Finally, don't forget to walk the coastal path and find the award-winning 'Hidden Hut' on Porthcurnick beach - fantastic food cooked outdoors! Our lodge is the perfect base for walking the South West Coastal Path. Alternatively you can walk to the beach in approx 15 minutes (uphill on the return!) or take some beautiful all-day walks around the spectacular and unspoilt coastline. From Portscatho (25 mins walk) you can catch a bus to the pretty seaside village of St Mawes, or the well-appointed city of Truro. National Trust members will appreciate plenty of free parking spots nearby! We stay here regularly and it really is a home from home, not just a holiday let so forgive us if we're a bit selective over who stays! We don’t charge for cleaning because we trust you to leave the place as you found it – very clean and tidy. Please see our 'house rules' below. Prices include all bed linen but please bring your own towels for beach, pool and bath. The kitchen cupboards are fully stocked. Simply replace anything you use up. Please note that because we rent the property privately, staff onsite have no involvement with our guests. Please let us know if you need any help or advice during your stay.
