Hereford House of Hartley Vale
Hereford House is a tastefully renovated self-contained three bedroom "Heritage Listed" cottage. Initially it was a semi-detached workers cottage built in the 1870's as accommodation for the employees of the Hartley Kerosene Oil & Paraffine Co.Ltd which was established in Hartley Vale on July 31st 1865. Hereford House is a peaceful retreat in a semi rural landscape nestled below the western sandstone escarpment of the Blue Mountains, only 2 hours drive from Sydney. Local legend tells us that Kate Kelly (Catherine Ada Kelly) (12 July 1863 – October 1898) the younger sister of famous Australian outlaw Ned Kelly once had a short stay in Hereford House before taking up employment in the area as a governess. Greg's vision was to restore the building's integrity and present an inviting space for guests to enjoy the beauty and serenity of our little piece of heaven. We believe we have achieved this and look forward to welcoming people from all over the world. Solitude, serenity, walking tracks, lookouts, history - an ideal place for that getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. A short drive to cafes, restaurants, antique shops and markets in Mt Victoria & Blackheath. A 45 minute drive takes you to the Jenolan Caves, the largest, most spectacular and most famous caves in Australia. Mt Vic Flicks the way movies used to be is a 10 minute drive away. Our intention is to meet and greet our guests to introduce them to the idiosyncracies of Hereford House, then leave them to their own devices. However we are nearby and available if any problems arise. Hartley Vale is a rural area, so if you are walking in the paddocks, please remember to close gates behind you. Hartley Vale is 10 minutes from the nearest store, so it is essential that you have your own transport. Please respect others and always smoke outside the house.
