Superb house in Provencal hilltop village
Great views, in a charming stone house with a good sized garden that from the exterior appears to be many centuries old but the interior is very modern filled with original art, ground floor geo-thermal heating, wifi, bluetooth, jacuzzi bath, Italian showers and a kitchen installed in 2015. All in the charming historic village of Lagrand which holds the highly respected classification of 'PETITES CITES DE CARACTÈRE', situated in the Parc Naturel des Baronnies Provencales. The upper floor is in the style of a loft with good light and the kitchen, dining room and lounge all connected and open plan as well as the mezzanine floor. The sofa in the lounge is a convertible double bed, if needed. There is also an operating open fire but this is more for the look and feel on cold winter nights, the whole house is heated by floor heating. The lower floor has 4 separate rooms, the main bedroom has ancient valuted ceilings, a queen size double bed and a separate ensuite bathroom with both a jacuzzi bath and Italian shower. The second bedroom has one bunk bed and an extra single bed that can be added if required, as well as an ensuite Italian shower and toilet. Finally there is a separate toilet for visitors. The lower floor is darker and has the great advantage in summer of being naturally cool, while in winter with the floor heating means you are comfortable. The garden is a good size with a large table, barbeque, wood fired pizza oven, well stocked herb garden, a 40 year old cherry tree that gives welcome natural shade in summer and 4 hammocks and many hammock crochets. The whole house and all the garden. We provide bed linen, towels and tea towels as well as a few basic products to help you avoid going to the shops immediately you arrive. I will be able to help directly or through one of my neighbours 300 days of sunshine on average per annum, in the least populated department of France. A large selection of sporting activities from rock climbing in Orpierre, hang gliding or paragliding from Chabre (the mountain in front of the house) swimming in local lakes at Riou or La Germainette, in the delightful gorges de la Meouge or in the Orpierre swimming pool , kayaking on the Durance, gliding at Vaumeilh or Serres, hikes and horse riding everywhere and even donkey rides from our local farm who also have some wonderful goats cheese. Every Thursday morning there is one of the main Provencal Markets in Laragne where all sorts of local produce can be bought from honey, cheeses, fruits, wines, olive oils, vegetables, breads and lavender oils. In the summer season there are also a lot of cultural activities, concerts, theatre and circuses. In the village itself there is a very young childrens playground, a playground for older children, a basketball and volleyball court, as well as a very large scenic plateau to either walk around or even land your plane on. A car is important. The best local transport is from Laragne train station 7kms away which connects to Marseille, Briancon and Grenoble. There are also buses but they are not that convenient. Once arrived you can avoid driving however as long as you are happy walking about a 1.5km to a nearby village 400m lower down in the valley where there is an excellent butchers, two bakers and a very good grocers The stairs between the lower and upper floor are steeper than normal stairs, and there is a short section where most adults will have to duck their heads, These are not stairs for people in poor health or unstable on their feet. You are expected to leave the house clean for which you have all equipment and products needed to do this. If you prefer not to clean up we can normally offer a cleaning service for €40
