Other artisans live close by in this fascinating place, first used as an escape to safety during the Second World War. Enchanted by the peace and clean air of Sandy Lane, some residents decided not to return to war-torn Swansea at the end of the war, but remained here, and a new community of gentle, peace-loving souls was created. Just 400 metres from public transport links and with a shop and bar within a 15-minute walk, Pip's Place makes for an ideal base on the Gower. Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Gower is truly unspoilt by new development, its many beaches lay untouched by modern standards. That is not to say that the area is deserted: you will find many good pubs serving top quality Welsh locally sourced food. There are good farmers markets held in Mumbles and Uplands nearby. Walk the Gower Way to see the stunning beauty of this little-known area of Wales, a pathway that follows ancient byways right around the Gower Coast. Walk the "Worm", an iconic peninsula only accessible at low tide which juts out at the very tip of the Gower, sheltering Rhossili Bay, all 3 miles of it - voted amongst the top 5 beaches in the world - consistently. Take time out to visit Mumbles 7 miles away, home of the lifeboat, and get a taste of life on the edge of the sea. You will find a good range of bars, shops, and restaurants. Mumbles is the quintessential seaside village - it even has its own lighthouse and a pier. Three Cliffs Bay have good public transport services including buses & local taxi firms.
