The Downstairs Studio The Annexe -Soberton Lodge
The "Downstairs Studio" at The Annexe is situated in the beautiful Meon Valley and South Downs National Park. A separate but adjacent building to the main house, it comprises a spacious, self-contained, sunny and well-equipped studio apartment, with its own kitchen/dining area and bathroom. Ideal for cyclists, walkers and riders as it has direct access to the countryside and Meon Way from the garden. Heated swimming pool (1st May to 1st Oct)), lockable bike storage and ultra fast broadband. The Annexe is a great base for those walkers, cyclists or riders that want to explore the Meon Valley and South Downs National Park, as it connects directly from the grounds to The Meon Way which links to the Forest of Bere and South Downs Way. Stunning countryside and ancient woodland on your doorstep with attractive medieval villages nearby and country pubs - many of which are dog friendly. The Annexe can be let as a whole (with both studios) or separately for the upstairs or downstairs studios. There is a front entrance and lobby area and then separate entrances to the studios, each lockable. It is very flexible accommodation to suit couples or families and friends. This listing is for the "Downstairs Annexe Studio" which sleeps two with zipped and linked beds, so either 2 twins or a super-kingsize double. A lovely big bathroom with power shower and well equipped kitchen, including a small oven with two ceramic hotplates, microwave, full size fridge (with ice-box), kettle, toaster and Nespresso coffee machine with milk frother. The French doors open out onto a pretty courtyard area with seating/dining and water features. The shower has room for a baby bath in it and there is room for a travel cot, highchair etc. The annexe has ultra fast broadband which can have a wired or wi-fi connection. Both studios have SMART TV's with Netflix etc. Both studios are heated with constant hot water and power showers. There is the option to have an office space - please let us know if you would require this. Parking is at the rear of the annexe and there is lockable storage for any bikes. The annexe guests are welcome to share our large garden (3.5 acres) and heated swimming pool. However the pool is not open all year round (generally May to Oct)and is not fenced off, so children and pets must be supervised. We have a friendly if excitable collie, that has free rein in the garden and two ponies in the paddock. The menege and paddock are fenced but still accessible and so again animals and children would need to be supervised and are not allowed in the paddock. There is plenty of walking and cycling direct from the garden, and you can walk to Wickham. Otherwise you need a car as ther is no public transport. The nearest train stations are Fareham and Botley. Richard and Julia are newly retired and ready to host guests in their lovely annexe, sharing their heated swimming pool and large garden. We live in the main house and so are on hand to answer any queries and to make sure your stay is happy and comfortable. The South Downs National Park and Meon Valley are beautiful with lovely walks and chalk streams. Ancient woodlands such as The Forest of Bere are beautiful - especially in bluebell season. Old Winchester Hill is nearby as is the medieval towns of Wickham and Bishops Waltham. Both of these are pretty with lovely cafes and independent shops. The Meon valley is steeped in history and East Meon is linked to Bayeaux and features in the Bayeaux Museum. The Cathedral cities of Winchester and Chichester are 25 minutes away, together with many other attractions such as The Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth, the New Forest, River Hamble (for sailing), beaches and nature reserves and Goodwood Racecourse. Some pubs are walkable such as The Roebuck or The White Lion at Soberton - both of which are dog friendly. There is a local trekking centre in Soberton: "South Downs Trekking" and many other riding centres. You will need a car to access the wider area, but Wickham can be walked or cycled to (3 miles). The local train stations are at Fareham and Botley, but we are not on a bus route. The pool is now closed until 1st May 2022.
