The beautiful and historic Ashford Mills is referenced as far back as the Doomsday book. Set on the banks of the River Isle, Ashford Mills will simply take your breath away. A 5 acre working small-holding that sits on National Cycle Route 33, this is the perfect place to find tranquility and adventure: wander the gardens among the chickens and sheep, live sustainably on our fresh eggs and home grown veg, kayak the River Isle and wild swim, visit national trusts and local cider mills. The historic mill sleeps 8 with 4 double bedroom areas. Our guests range from couples seeking a romantic getaway to groups of friends and family looking to share time in a convivial environment. The internal structure has been kept as it would have been in the 16th century therefore the floors are open plan. This means in the winter months it is chilly. There is central heating and an Esse wood burning stove, but please be aware that is it a big space to heat. Layout: Ground Floor: - A country kitchen fitted with all essentials including sink, hob, microwave, oven, dishwasher, fridge freezer , crockery, and cutlery. -Separate double bedroom / annex room with its own bath, sink and WC. First Floor: -Double bed -Bathroom with WC, shower, sink. - Esse wood-burner single stove Please note that this level has a ceiling height of 5 ft 5 inches high Second Floor / Attic. -x2 King-size / Twin beds. Please note that both sets of stairs to the first floor and the attic are fairly steep and regrettably are not suitable for persons with restricted mobility. Infants under 6 should be shown how to walk safely down them by an adult and supervised if required. Please note that we live in the adjacent cottage. You are most welcome (encouraged) to roam freely around our gardens and paddocks, but our animals are free roaming too - so you will encounter goats, lambs, dogs, chickens, ducks and guinea fowl in your pathway. Dogs are allowed. However as our animals run free, you MUST be fully confident that your dog/s will not harm or chase other animals and be kept under control. Check out time is 11am promptly. Check in time is from 3pm onwards. As mentioned, we are on National Cycle Route 33, which goes from Bristol to the Dorset Jurassic Coast so many of our guests use this as a base for day trips to Lyme Regis, Beer, Charmouth and West Bay to name a few. We are on the edge of the levels and the skies and views around here are simply stunning. Walks and wildlife are, literally, on our doorstep. Ilminster - the local town is 4km away with shops, restaurants and take-aways. There are many quintessential village pubs within 5km of the house - now that we are able to enjoy these again. The blackdown hills are a mere 9km away with walks and views to die for. Somerset is Cider country and there are 2 fabulous award winning Cider Mills close by: Perry's cider and Burrow Hill (of Glastonbury Festival fame). Most visitors find the most fantastic part is just being at Ashford Mills and enjoying the space: relaxing, seeing the history of the old water mill and being able to be free. Ilminster is our local town. Taunton (London Paddington - Exeter St Davis) and Crewkerne (London Waterloo SW Trains) are 30 minutes drive from Ashford Mills. If you are travelling by train with your bike, we are able to collect and drop off from either station for a small additional fee should you wish. By car, we are just off the M5 and A303. This is our home as well as a working small holding, we live onsite in the cottage and therefore will be around tending to the animals or doing general outdoor work that usually means getting covered in mud or worse (me - not you!) So I will be on-hand with any questions or tips of the area.
