Cosy, bright 19th century purbeck stone cottage on a quiet, private lane in the delightful village of Langton Matravers. Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty this is fantastic accommodation for walkers, nature lovers or young families looking for a peaceful retreat. Well placed for exploring the Isle of Purbeck and its Jurassic coastline. The picturesque seaside town of Swanage is only 2.5 miles away. 2 bedrooms, ground floor bathroom, well equipped kitchen, cosy living room, WIFI. Living room - with comfortable seating, Freeview TV, Sound Bar and wood burning fire this is a cosy space in which to relax after a busy day exploring. Kitchen - with dining table and seating for four the kitchen is well equipped for preparing and enjoying meals. There is a big OS map on the wall to help plan trips. Appliances include 4 ring gas cooker, microwave, washing machine, dish washer and fridge with freezer compartment. Ground floor bathroom - bath with shower attachment (not suitable for stand up showers), WC and pedestal sink. Master Bedroom - King size bed with fresh linen, chest of drawers, desk and wardrobe storage plus sink. 2nd Bedroom - Twin beds with fresh linen and furnished with chest of drawers, mirror and sink. *WiFi throughout *Cot, high chair, dining chair booster seat, toddler books and toys. *On-demand hot water from a combi boiler so you should have hot water whenever you need it. The entire cottage is available for guest use. Our local co hosts are on hand to assist you during your stay. *There is a village shop and post office down the hill in Langton who have basic supplies including some local produce, newspapers, cards, maps and nice fresh bread if you get there early enough. *There is a bakery in Corfe, and a deli (called Salt Pig stocking excellent local produce including fish and meats), bakery, Co-op and Budgens in Swanage. Top tips! Eating and drinking: *I worked at the Square and Compass in Worth Matravers for several years and can vouch for it being the best pub in the world. Independently owned by the Newman family and therefore unspoilt by the big breweries, it is a beautiful 18th century pub with views down the Winspit valley, its very own fossil museum, flagstones, open fires, and a fantastic selection of ales and locally brewed cider. Look out for live music which is on regularly, and various festivals that take place there. They serve homemade pasties at lunch until they run out, and they now take cards which is a modern outlier! The Square is about a 5 minute drive up the road from Langton. *If you want coffee, cake or a good lunch, then LoveCake in Swanage is very good. *The Scott Arms in Kingston has a big beer garden with beautiful views over Corfe Castle. They serve good food and a have a wide selection of beers. It is about a 5 minute drive up the road from Langton. *If you want a more upmarket meal, there is Shell Bay Seafood Restaurant just before you get to the chain ferry on the Studland side of Poole harbour. Their food is excellent, and they have beautiful views over Brownsea Island and Poole Harbour which is particularly worth seeing during a lovely sunset. It is about a 20 minute drive from Langton. Out and about: *Beaches: Studland beach is famous for its long stretch of sand and gorgeous views across to Old Harry Rocks. As a result, it can get very busy during the summer holidays. It is about a 15 minute drive from Langton. *Swanage beach is brilliant too; it gets quieter as you head north towards the chalk hill but the town end is good for buckets and spades, ice creams and Punch and Judy. It is about a 5 minute drive from Langton. *Walking and swimming: You are spoilt for choice if you like walking and swimming. My favourite is the coastal path along the cliffs, stretching west from Durlston Head in Swanage as far as your legs can take you! You can walk to the cliffs from the cottage; take the path opposite the entrance to the Old Malthouse (just down the road from North Street) and head straight and you will come to the sea in about 20 minutes. *Great swim spots from the cliffs are Dancing Ledge (there is a pool there on the ledge that you can swim in, which was created for local schools about a century ago), Seacombe and Winspit. You need to go from the rocks straight into deep water, but it is manageable at most tides if it is not too rough. It is safe to swim but just don’t swim out far from the cliffs as there are currents. Other activities and rainy days: *Putlake Farm: If you have young children, there is a petting farm and brilliant soft play area at Putlake Farm at the bottom of Langton, about a 5 minute walk down the hill. *Steam train: There is a heritage steam train that runs from Corfe to Swanage and even serves delicious cream teas on board. *Corfe Castle: The National Trust own the castle which was destroyed after the Civil War in 1645. Well worth a visit. *Kimmeridge: The Etches Collection. An incredible museum of Jurassic marine life collection by Steve Etches, a local amateur palaeontologist. *Dorchester Museum: Excellent local museum that punches well above its weight. There is no stand up shower facility in the bathroom. The sash windows in the front of the lounge are not functional but there are two other windows at the rear which can be opened. Parking is off road opposite the house.
