Sue and Rob Kookaburra cottage at Mount Worth We are so delighted you have chosen to stay at Kookaburra Cottage at Mount Worth, and look forward to meeting you and your family/friends and helping you explore our farm and this lovely part of Victoria. It is a beautiful place, whether you enjoy bushwalking, bike riding, birdwatching, finding local breweries and wineries, or just relaxing with a glass of wine and a book on the deck of our cottage with its amazing views. Or inside by the cosy fire on a cold day. Don’t forget to bring a warm jumper as the air can be cool at our 500m altitude. A few details to help you plan your stay. Mount Worth Farm is about one hour 30 mins from central Melbourne, via the Monash Freeway talking the Warragul/Korumburra exit. It can take longer in rush hour. If arriving after dark, please drive slowly after turning left off the main Warragul-Korumburra Rd, as we love our wombats (and they damage cars!). Our address is (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) McDonalds Track, Seaview (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) There is a white gate on your right along McDonalds Track coming from Warragul direction, a white sign that says Mount Worth (Farm), and a blue sign for Kookaburra cottage. Open the gate, drive up the driveway, through the trees and past the first house on the left with the radio tower (that’s our place), and about 100m further on is the entrance to Kookaburra Cottage and studio forking left through wooden gate posts across the cattle grid. Drive in and park under the trees next to the deck and front entrance. Welcome to Kookaburra cottage and studio! (It may be best to print out your (Hidden by Airbnb) map directions to get here before you leave to be on the safe side, rather than rely solely on your phone, as occasionally some mobile phones lose temporary access on the drive up to Mount Worth, although range is fine once you are here at the farm and cottage. ) All the amenities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable at Kookaburra cottage are provided. Linen, towels, doonas, lovely glasses, crockery and everything you will need for cooking and eating. There is a fridge, smart TV, gas bbq provided free, as well as an indoor firebox with wood provided for when nights get cold. (There’s a reverse cycle heater and aircon unit in both the cottage and studio too, and ceiling fan). High speed internet access is good, with free wifi provided. Our water supply is all mountain rainfall collected from our roofs, including our drinking water. Pls text me via Airbnb me if you have any other queries about amenities. You will need to bring all your own food - we provide tea and ground plunger coffee - and drinks. The nearest shops are 25 mins away in Warragul or Yarragon, so it’s probably best to bring what you need with you when you come up to Mount Worth (as you won’t want to leave once you get here!) Rob and I are v happy to help with suggestions and advice on lovely country drives, walks, coffee shops and bakeries in the district. Phillip Island is about 1 hour 15 mins drive away, while the nearest beaches are at Inverloch or Venus Bay, both an hour’s drive from Mount Worth. A highlight of any stay at Kookaburra cottage is beautiful Mount Worth State Park on our southern boundary, with its cool tree ferns, soaring mountain ash trees, bubbling creeks and fantastic birds and wildlife. A picnic on the wooden tables, a woodfired bbq (when allowed) or sitting on the grass beside Moonlight Creek at the main entrance to Mount Worth state park, just down the road from us, followed by a walk through its lush fern gullies and giant trees is a must! If you wanted to enjoy a top restaurant dinner or lunch as a special treat while you are here, we suggest you might want to book ahead at Hogget Kitchen, a one chefs hat restaurant between our place and warragul, (15 min drive) in a beautiful building with deck overlooking Wild Dog Creek vineyards. Its only open Thursday- Sundays with a set-price beautiful menu of local seasonal ingredients and booking is definitely required. (It’s been a great find for us! ) Brandy Creek winery and restaurant just north of Warragul. Is also a great spot to sit on the deck, eat great tapas and try a glass of their wine. Another local winery is Djinta Djinta near Korumburra, or Ripplebrook near Drouin south. The Grand Ridge Road is a lovely drive or bike riding destination near us, a spectacular sealed road winding along the top of a ridge to reach Leongatha or Mirboo north. Good cafes at Mirboo North or a pub lunch at the Grand Ridge Brewery is always a good idea. The excellent ginnery, coffee shops, winery and brewery in the quaint foodie town of Loch are a beautiful 45 minute country drive away via Poowong. Or head north through warragul on a lovely drive through Neerim south, heading for the famous Noojee pub (the Nooj) on the banks of the Latrobe river, with a great outdoor deck, frequent live music and lovely grassy picnic area by the river to enjoy a picnic and beer of for for kids to play, ringed by mighty forests. Yarragon is a 25 minute drive away, just at the foot of Mount Worth and the Strezleckis. It is well known for its bakery and local food shops, has numerous op shops, art gallery, antique shops, second hand stores and vintage barns. Its excellent pub, the heritage Yarragon Hotel, has really good food and evening dining (weds-Sunday), as well as a big lawn beer garden. Best coffee for miles around is to be found in the little Yarragon village laneway at The Shothouse. Just a little further east along the highway is the famed Spud Store, selling locally grown Thorpdale potatoes, herbs and vegetables, as well as local meat, cheeses and dairy products. Or Drive direct from Kookaburra cottage to Thorpdale - a lovely 20 minute country drive through the hills and childers - to its outstanding bakery, where the meat and vegan pies, cakes and bread are award winners. The restored art deco pub is now open Thursday’s to Sundays... with its dining room to be opened soon. There are local farmers markets at warragul, Drouin, yarragon and Rokeby in different Saturday’s of the month. And if you are into mountain bike riding, road touring cycling or dirt road biking, this is a great area to be based, with the sealed Grand Ridge Road or gravel road of McDonalds Track already well known amongst keen cyclists. Tarra Bulga National Park, Mount Baw Baw and the beautiful mountain village of Walhalla are other lovely places with bush walking trails, barbecue areas and cafe facilities, all slightly more further afield but definitely worth the trip. Happy to provide plenty more suggestions as it gets closer to your arrival dates! Our house where we live is about 200m away from the cottage and of course we are happy to help out with advice, maps, any issues with the cottage, or if you find you are missing any vital provisions after you arrive ! Warmest regards and we look forward very much to your visit to Kookaburra Cottage at Mount Worth. Sue and Rob DOGS: We prefer dogs are left at home. Mount worth is a working cattle and sheep farm surrounded by national park and some dogs will not suit the environment. It is also not much fun for them here, as they need to be on leash all the time. We are not anti-dog and I am sure your dog s absolutely gorgeous but we are a farm with sheep, lambs and cattle. If a dog ran into a paddock with cows minding their young calves, it could get kicked and hurt. Lambs and sheep are very vulnerable to dog attack and our guarding alpacas will kick any dogs to death. There is also Ratsak in some sheds. We also have so many beautiful birds and native animals such as wombats and wallabies. Consequently, all dogs need to be on leash at all times when walking around the farm. The cottage does have a covered small yard /carport specially designed so you can leave your dog there when you go walking. Because of guest allergies we also don’t allow dogs in the cottage or bedrooms, but they could sleep in the laundry inside the back of the house. We would love to welcome you here at Mount Worth, but perhaps not your dog. But we are happy to discuss. Sue and Rob
