This quaint and cozy adobe is walking distance from the historic Gage Hotel, Restaurant & Bar. Marathon is known as the gateway to Big Bend and the home is the perfect on your way to or from the park, or just for relaxing. Our home is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families with kids. The Gomez Ortega House is an adobe home constructed circa 1940. It is named after the family who originally resided there. It was completely renovated in the mid 1990s with saltillo tile floors, a living room, kitchen, separate bedroom, bath and laundry facilities. As is common with homes of that era, there are no interior doors except for the bathroom. It is on a quiet street near the edge of town just a minute’s walk from shopping and dining. The saltillo tile and traditional furnishings let you know you are in West Texas, while wifi and cable TV keep you connected if you choose. The yard is great for watching sunsets over the Glass Mountains while grilling dinner. The kitchen is also well stocked with all you should need to cook your own meals. May access entire space. As needed by guest. Owner does not live in town but property manager does. PLEASE CONTACT PROPERTY MANAGER WITH ANY ISSUES! HER NAME IS MARCIE AND HER NUMBER IS (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Quiet street, on South side of town. The house is just off the corner of Avenue D and 6th St. Southeast. Avenue D is also known as Post Road and if you continue south out of town you will come to a pleasant park with a pond that is excellent for birding. If you are headed West into town on Hwy 90, take a left on Ave. D and left on 6th St. Southeast. The house is the second one on left. It has a sign above the front door that says Gomez Ortega on it. Whole town is walking distance. Note that the sole grocery store in Marathon, while great for many things, has limited supplies of fresh food and you may want to do grocery shopping before you arrive if you plan to cook. The restaurant choices during the week are also limited so you may want to consider that option if you are staying more than a night or two.
