Quaint countryside roads, pastoral mountain views, and roaming farm animals lead you to “River Dreams”, a unique and tranquil getaway. River water access requires high mobility and some maneuvering at this time. While the pathway had been cleared, our steps & landings are not yet built. We have been experiencing unexpected delays with progress during to the labor shortage in the countryside. We are hoping for a Spring 2022 completion. Thank you for your patience. Entire house and property, except the following areas: Owner’s Closet (main house) Guest Cottage (locked) Toro Vehicle (red parked on side of house) I am available by phone, email, Airbnb messenger for any questions you have prior to or during your stay. Our home is located in Shipwreck Farm, a wonderful quiet neighborhood within 5 minutes from the town of Shenandoah, 15 minutes Massanutten Four Season Resort, 25 minutes to Shenandoah National Park (Swift-Run Gap Entrance), and 30 minutes from Harrisonburg, home of the JMU Dukes. Our home has private access to the Shenandoah River. For more information on our area of the river, search "South Fork Shenandoah River" and Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. We have a long circular gravel driveway with plenty of space for parking. Please be careful, courteous, and yield to oncoming cars as the roads are single-lane in our neighborhood. Our property has 162' of riverfront. Our home does not have river views. A 3-5 minute stroll will take you to the river from the house. Our basement is finished with tile flooring and an open-concept ceiling. It is nice and cool in the summer, but is significantly colder than the upper floor in the winter. We have provided several blankets for you to use as needed. We are having steps & landings built and hope to complete it Spring 2022. While the pathway has been cleared of brush, it is a dirt incline and may be steep at certain parts. Access to the river will require high mobility and some maneuvering around bushes, trees, and rocks. We’ve been faced with the challenges of labor shortage in the countryside, and thank you for your patience and understanding. Don’t forget River/Water shoes as the bottom of the river is rocky and parts may be rough or sharp. It will take some strength to get the kayaks and river tubes down to the water. The river water is shallow, and goes up mostly to about waist (adult) high. Some life jackets in varying sizes are provided should you need them. The river flows from right to left and is about a Category 1 rapids. For ease, we advise you paddle right and then float back towards the house. The Shenandoah Speedway racetrack is several miles away across the river. If you book on a race night, you will hear the race from the riverfront. Search up "Shenandoah Speedway" to obtain the most updated schedule. Our neighbors have friendly dogs, and may at times roam briefly into our backyard. We also have a deer family that come through our front yard in the morning and early evening to nibble on our pear trees. If you have young children, please advise them to behave accordingly so as to not startle these animals. We are a pet-friendly family, but due to allergies, are unable to accommodate all our furry friends. If you are interested in a longer stay and would like special consideration for your family pet, we will be happy to review your request on a case-by-case basis. We have regular professional pest control service for bugs, mosquitoes, etc. Because we are in nature, you may occasionally see a little critter here and there (flies are popular and we’ve supplied swatters, also check for tics). Typically after it rains, the gnats come out. Please be advised and plan accordingly. Bring bug spray! In our riverfront area, homes tend to be moist and we have a dehumidifier in the basement. If you feel a bit “musty”, it is normal for our home. Lowering the AC or turning on the ceiling fans will typically take care of this for our guests. Check-out time is promptly at 10:00 am as our housekeeping staff need to work diligently in order to prepare for the next guests.
