La Rigole

La Rigole built in the 19thC as the village' vet's farm house. The house is situated at the end of a private road, in the center of the calm rural village of Arthonnay. The house is for those who love the atmosphere of times gone by. It's charm lies in it's large windows, uneven stone and wooden floors and exposed beams. One enters into a spacious sitting dining room, decorated to retain it's original character, with a separate simple kitchen equipped with modern facilities. A beautiful wooden staircase leads upto the bedrooms, one large twin room, a comfortabe double room from which there is another small twin for 2 children as well as the bathroom. At the top of the stairs there is a seperate W.C. and washroom. Discreet but welcoming English speaking owner lives nearby and can offer advice local visits as well as local specialities. The village, of Arthonnay, is set in beautiful rolling countryside planted with corn, barley and sunflowers, interspersed with deciduous forests. Situated on the border between Burgundy and Champagne offers wine tastings including Chablis and the little known Epineuil. Other visits, of interest, are local chateaux, Tanlay & Ancy le Franc. Tonnerre, Chablis & Chaource are lively market towns. Chaource is also known for it's cheese, chaource, as well as it's cheese museum. Nigloland amusement park is 1 hours easy drive for a good day out There are 2 local golf courses and an equestrian center for horse riding. The house is southfacing and has a private sunny courtyard, a real suntrap which is gently shaded, for midday meals, by a graceful willow. The courtyard ensures safety for small children as well as off street parking.
