Continental BREAKFAST every morning is included. One of a kind swimming pool blasted out of native rock. Sea views from every window. We look forward to welcoming you to your own private suite attached to our home by the sea. We live near Duncan in the Cowichan Valley in the picturesque village of Maple Bay, on Southern Vancouver Island. Close to seaside towns, wineries, restaurants, a pub and pretty countryside; Duncan is 10 minutes away, and 1 hour from the capital city of B.C., Victoria. The whole East wing of a one-in-a-million owner-built home in picturesque Maple Bay near Duncan on Vancouver Island . We have spent over forty six years creating our home, and now we would love to share it with you. We love hosting Airbnb because we get to meet so many wonderful people. We live in the 32 foot diameter geodesic dome and we will be more than happy to show you our part of the house. YOUR ROOMS ARE IN THE HEXAGONAL ADDITION. This is almost like a separate house and will be all yours and quite private and you have your own deck looking over the sea. (Remember, this is an addition onto our house and as such is not a completely cut off and separate apartment.) There is a connecting conservatory; this is where you have your breakfast, with a view out over the bay. There is a microwave oven, fridge, coffee maker and kettle; we provide a Continental breakfast of home made granola, croissants, home made jams, and yoghurt, and we will wash your dishes! (There are no other cooking facilities, but you can do a lot with a microwave and a toaster.) The door to our kitchen connects us to our guests so that we can serve the breakfast, clear the dishes and make sure that everybody is happy. On the lower floor is a pretty bedroom (with a queen-sized bed) looking out over a landscaped garden, with a view across the sea to Salt Spring Island. The morning sun comes up over the Salt Spring across the sea, and when the moon is up, it shines into the bedroom window. Next to the bedroom is the full private bathroom with shower. A hair drier is provided, as well as towels, soap, shampoo etc. An iron and ironing board is available. On the top floor is the living room, which doubles as a dance and art room, with a large open wooden floor, with a big screen T.V. and DVD player. High speed internet in all rooms . We too love to travel, and have stayed in some wonderful homes through Airbnb; we are sure you will enjoy your visit to our house, and the friendly Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. We are within one hour's drive of the capital city of Victoria, and close to Duncan, Nanaimo, Cowichan Bay, Chemainus and its murals, Lake Cowichan and Salt Spring Island. (The ferry to Salt Spring is only 10 minutes away). The West Coast and Tofino are within reach on a long morning's drive. There are a dozen wineries in the Cowichan Valley and several golf-courses within a 20 minute drive. Kayaks are for rent in Maple Bay. There are whale-watching tours in Cowichan Bay (mention that you are staying with us and you will get a 10% discount), as well, the ancient lawn tennis club (est.1887), is about 12 minutes away. 5 minutes away is the wonderful Pacific Northwest Raptors where you can learn about beautiful birds of prey, from eagles to vultures, as they free fly in front of you. There are many hiking trails close by including a visit to the spectacular Kinsol Trestle in Shawnigan Lake, an old wooden railway trestle over a rushing river. There is a regular seaplane service flying in to Maple Bay; a quick 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver. There are also local public tennis courts just down the road. Maple Bay is a very quiet village about 8 kilometers from the local town of Duncan, the City of Totems. There is a bus service to Duncan. Deer on the lawn, racoons sneaking around at night, and even an otter has checked out our swimming pool! The house is on 2 1/2 acres and is surrounded by about an acre of landscaping; lawns and flowers and rockeries and the swimming pool; you can use it all. Behind the house is Maple Mountain Park and its hiking trails. A short 6 minute walk down to the local pub and tennis courts, or a short drive to excellent restaurants, several by the water where you can sit on the patio and watch the boats, others in town or at the wineries; a great choice from cozy and cheap to high end and classy! We look forward to meeting you! Please tell us a little about yourself. Airbnb verification and a nice photo of yourself is very important and a great help...... The swimming pool, blasted out of the bedrock, is yours to enjoy and SHARE with us.(Unheated, but warmed by the sun, and normally not in use until May). It is mostly a natural rock pool and therefore has some underwater promontories...take care. If you would like to have a quick virtual tour, with the history of how we came to build here, there is a YouTube video that you can watch by searching "This geodesic dome was built by hand for $18,000 If you find that a special day that you would like is blocked off, please contact us , and we will see if we can open it up for you. Guests have the whole ADDITION to themselves, the size of a regular house. There is a separate entrance, and you will have the key; we live in the main house and will be happy to show you around the dome if you like. We love to meet and chat and to get to know our guests, and we can suggest places to visit; but of course we leave it up to you as to how much............... We've lived here in Maple Bay for over 45 years, and have traveled to most places on Vancouver Island, but we have never found a place where we would rather live; we think this is the prettiest area of all, and the little town of Duncan (10 minutes away) has all the facilities that we need. It is a short walk to Maple Bay beach and its Pub (The Lion Rampant), and there are other fine restaurants within a 15 minute drive, including the lovely Genoa Bay Café and The Shipyard in Maple Bay. Living on a very quiet dead-end street, with a beautiful view of the sheltered sea, gives us a wonderful peaceful life. There is an occasional bus from Maple Bay to Duncan, but really, a car is needed to see the area properly. Full high speed wi-fi available in the suite . Please make sure you include a real and recent photograph of yourself in your Airbnb membership. Parking at the house is quite tight, especially for larger trucks but there is a space for guests....large RVs would not fit. Be aware that the ferries from Vancouver can be very busy in the Summer... it’s a good idea to reserve a place, especially on weekends and holidays. It would be a shame to spend your holiday time in a ferry line up.
