Self Contained with separate access. Spacious 'barn' style annexe next to family house (40ftx20ft internal) Rural- car essential. Romsey 4 miles. New Forest, Salisbury, Southampton, Winchester. King bed, shower room, VERY BASIC 'kitchen' (kettle, toaster, mini cooker, m/wave, fridge) Tea & coffee; salt, pepper, oil. TV, Wi-Fi, own parking and garden. Not suitable for children or pets (hazards). MIN 2 NIGHTS' STAY PLEASE BE PREPARED TO USE KEY SAFE FOR ACCESS (SEE BELOW FOR LOCATION.) Bartley Barn is a spacious, self-contained, open-plan annexe next to our house. It has a very high ceiling and feels airy yet cosy. Generally quiet except for some noisy wildlife (owls, deer, badgers, foxes, rabbits, birds) and family life in main house (inc car in and out). Oil-fired central heating. The entire space, upstairs and down, is completely open plan so ideal for a couple or single occupancy. Large downstairs space with sitting area and kitchen/dining area. Sitting area has two large sofas with snuggly throws. The 'kitchen' is very basic (sink, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge, mini cooker 13amp) and is all part of the open plan space. Shower room with unlimited hot water, toilet, and glass basin. Spiral staircase to small mezzanine with King size bed, views and tv. Popular with romantic couples, business people, musicians, writers, walkers. Not suitable for young children - too many hazards. No pets please. Southampton, Salisbury and Winchester 20-40 mins drive; New Forest 15 mins drive. LOTS of fantastic places to visit and things to do. Details both in barn and some below. Food shops in Romsey 4 miles away. Village store in Whiteparish and a Nisa open til late in Wellow. Will endeavour to greet you and show you the space/answer questions. On arrival the key will be in the door – unlocked - IF we can be here to welcome you. If we cannot greet you on arrival the key will be in the key safe (see below) Key Safe Location Follow the gravel drive to the end of the barn where the outside boiler sits, under the wooden balcony. Look to the right side wall near the wooden upright ‘leg’ and you will see a MasterLock key safe A black cover sits over the key pad: slide cover downwards to reveal buttons, key in code (the code is revealed once your booking is confirmed) and push down little black button to left of key pad to pull down front of key safe. On leaving please post the key through the main house letterbox if no-one in, or knock the door to hand it over so I can wish you a good journey onwards.. Will respect your privacy and be on hand to help with your needs when possible and when not at work. Use my mobile to text anytime if there is somthing you want or need, and please let me have yours. BUT signal flakes in and out so if I don't respond try email or the app that starts with What (if you have that on your phone.) If it's late at night I will have switched my mobile to silent so use the landline - all contact details are revealed once a booking is confirmed. Sherfield English is a quiet village with a pub, unusual church and free tennis courts along with a recreation ground. The church bells are some of the best in the country and the team of ringers sound wonderful 11am Sunday morning. Bell practice is on Tuesday nights and you can listen from pub next door, The Hatchet, which serves sound family fare and has a small garden. The 'Rockingham Arms' in Wellow (about 2 miles) serves really good food in recently refurbished restaurant and bar. Walkers with dogs and riders, who tether their steed outside, are welcomed. Smart gift shop open in evenings with some beautiful stock for expensive tastes. The 'Cromwell Arms' at the end of the A27 just before Romsey town, is popular and has different spaces for eating in and out. In Sherfield we have free tennis courts 10 mins walk. Nisa store about 2 miles away; village shop in Whiteparish about 2 miles also. Romsey has Waitrose, Aldi and Co-op. Pebble beach about 45 mins drive (Lepe) and New Forest about 5 miles to nearest part. Theatres, cinemas, cathedrals, museums, pretty villages, Mottisfont Abbey (NT), Stonehenge, Woodhenge, iron age hill forts, Exbury Gardens and many other attractions to visit by car. Leaflets and guide books to help you plan are kept in the barn. Local walks from the house can take you across farmland, past banks of snowdrops and daffodils in spring followed by bluebells, and bright yellow fields of rape or borage in summer. Skylarks a-plenty. There are some great walks a short car journey away, often with a pub nearby eg 'The Drift Inn' at Beaulieu Road. Cycle hire is available for New Forest rides. 'The Shed' café at Courtens Garden Centre on the road to Whiteparish has good food, amazing variety of hot chocolate, and a huge, clear-glass wood burner with sofa for relaxing. Gilbert’s Nurseries down the road in Sherfield has a cafe and is highly regarded for its dahlias. The Lavender Tea rooms on A36 worth a visit in season. Manual for guests gives suggestions for shops, eating out and places to visit. I'll happily describe my favourites though! No public transport worth mentioning so car essential. Train station in Romsey/Salisbury/Southampton. One bus a day from Sherfield and a few more from Whiteparish but nothing much at night. Enterprise car rental in Salisbury is good. Value Cars Taxi firm Salisbury or for long distance Point to Point. Other local taxis are listed in the manual. Not suitable for very young children (hard floors, steep spiral staircase) or pets. Cleaned before your visit; change of bedding and towels available for those staying more than a week. (Extra towels available anyway.) Basic toiletries provided (soap, shampoo and other bits but not toothpaste) Emergency toiletries are in drawer under bed. Have stopped providing perishable goods as too much has been thrown away. There will be instant coffee, tea, salt, pepper and oil. Use of washing machine by arrangement. Own area of garden with decking in front of double doors. Two bean bags suitable for outdoors as well as indoors.
