Silver Howe is a characterful open-plan cottage with a south-facing patio and garden. This peaceful property is a perfect base from which to explore the Lake District. The house is homely and very well equipped, and just two minutes from the local fabulous village shop and pub. "Fantastic cottage, extremely well-equipped and comfortable..." "a real home from home..." We look forward to welcoming you. pl note: we are now accepting dogs! It will be £20 extra per dog, maximum two dogs.... Silver Howe is a welcoming traditional Lakeland cottage located in an elevated position on the Eastern edge of Chapel Stile. It has two beautiful double bedrooms, one with an ensuite. Both have gorgeous views over the field below. The third bedroom has bunk beds suitable for two children (age 6 or more). There is a wonderful living space with a bright open plan kitchen and living/dining room. The living room features a woodburning stove for those cosy winter evenings. It is an extremely peaceful location, on a quiet back lane. The cottage is set back from the road and accessed down a light of steps. The front door opens into an entrance hall with lots of space for waterproofs and muddy boots! Upstairs the family bathroom has a lovely roll top bath with shower above. The ensuite has a large metro-tiled shower. Both of the double bedrooms have pretty views out over a field and beyond. If you're lucky the local barn own will visit you at night! We are well stocked with board games and books, DVDs and guide books. If you want to eat out then drive or take a cab to nearby Ambleside or Grasmere. Closer to home you can walk to the village pub or the Britannia Inn in Elterwater. For groups larger than 6 Silver Howe can be rented out with 'The Piggery' ... a renovated one bedroom(king size bed) property just behind the main cottage. There is only one car parking space - directly beside 'The Piggery'. Additional cars can be parked further along the lane or in the village. We have a travel cot and highchair available upon request. We have also recently had a large shed built with a tumble drier inside! For the use of guests if necessary. I will be available in the event of an emergency or urgent queries. I don't live locally but we are all set up with great cleaners and maintenance help. The Lake District is my absolute favourite place in the world! Where can I start? Favourite walks include 'up and over the back' to Grasmere, up Latterbarrow, The Fairfield Horseshoe... too many to mention! The great thing about Silver Howe is that there are enough walks from the doorstep to last all week. It's also the perfect base from which to venture further afield eg to Keswick or Ullswater. Favourite cafes are Chesters at Skelwith Bridge and The Terrace Coffee House and Restaurant at Brantwood House in Coniston. The famous Britannia Inn is just a 15 minutes walk away in Elterwater. A great spot to relax over a drink after a long walk! The lively Old Dungeon Ghyll hikers bar, cosy New Dungeon Ghyll hotel and Stick Barn Tavern are just up the road in the Langdale Valley. For families with young children take them on their first proper fell walk up Loughrigg... or maybe to Easedale Tarn in Grasmere for a bit of wild swimming! I could go on... there is never any shortage of things to do at any time of the year. There are lots of books full of local walks at the house. We are very close to local bus routes. The bus stop is two minutes away in front of the village shop. The closest train station is in Windermere. We are 4 miles away from Ambleside.
