Thanks for checking out our room for rent! We also rent a full house on Airbnb, but this is our most budget-friendly option. We live in an unincorporated area of Saint Charles known as Valley View, east of the big bend in the Fox river, 3 miles north of the main town. Our family owns and lives in this house. We are offering the cozy lower level; a 325 square foot space. Take note that we have two cats. They are not allowed in the guest room but guests with allergies should keep this in mind. Our place is located in an unincorporated neighborhood 3.5 miles north of vibrant downtown St. Charles, location of the famous Arcada Theater and Hotel Baker. The Q Center of Saint Charles is just 2 miles up the road. The Kane County Fairgrounds is about 6 miles away. The city of Chicago is about an hour drive. We put up six adjustable speed metal fans on the ceiling above the king bed, controlled by a panel conveniently located next to the bed with separate adjustments for the left side versus the right side. Why a hexagon of fans? Many people like myself prefer subtle air flow while they sleep to cool their feet and keep the oxygen flowing throughout the room. But most importantly, it's something I've never seen before and it was fun to hook up. Please be aware that our house is in an unincorporated area of St. Charles, and being 4 miles from town you may occasionally hear fireworks from neighboring residents in the summer. We are lucky enough to still have city water though. Flying to Chicago? We're 31 miles from O'Hare airport, and 47 miles from Midway airport. Our space was newly painted and carpeted in 2019. Enjoy a king bed with an authentic barn wood headboard plus a fold-out futon for additional sleep space. Snuggle up under the giant quilt and enjoy all the Netflix you can watch on a 43 inch 4K screen. It gets dark here at night, so feel free to turn on the lanterns in the headboard or the twinkly Christmas lights around the room. We enjoyed putting this room together and it gave us a chance to exercise our creativity by building the bed and creating most of the artwork on the walls, either by photographing or painting. We provide a coffee maker with coffee, tea, and hot chocolate for you to enjoy. There's a mini fridge to hold the leftovers from your evening out, and a microwave to heat them up. We also provide bottle water and microwave popcorn. A washer and dryer are right next to the guest room - we prefer to limit the use of the washer and dryer to guests that are staying at least 3 nights. About Us: We are a family of four; my wife and I, and two girls ages 12 and 7, and we do live in the house. Cindy and I both grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and lived a few miles north in Elgin for 10 years. After years of admiring the Valley View area of St. Charles, we bought a house here summer of 2017. Allergy alert: We also have two cats but they are not allowed in the lower level. Within 5 minutes: 50-acre Riverbend Community Park is about one block north and contains basketball and tennis courts, baseball fields, a skate park, dog run area, and playground. Within about a 1 mile radius, you’ll find the steep maple and oak lined bluffs of Tekakwitha Woods, and one of Al Capone’s former speakeasies, hidden away down next to the Fox River. Grab your fishing poles, and go fishing at a quiet park, dare to take a ride along the sinking street that hugs the big bend of the river, or hop on the scenic bike path that follows the river 15 miles north and 20 miles south of St. Charles. Got a boat? The area also has boat launching spots. Within 10 minutes: Drive down the tree lined hills of route 25 to Illinois’ tri-cities (St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia), a cluster of three quaint and historic towns along the Fox River with shopping, dining, and charming river walks. Take an afternoon to visit the Fabyan windmill in Geneva, see a show at the Arcada Theater in downtown St. Charles, or cross the river and see the 8-foot cascading waterfall hidden in the forest preserve. Within 30 minutes: Drive 30 minutes to O’Hare Airport, Schaumburg’s Woodfield Mall, Ikea, Sears Center Arena, Fermie Lab, Paramount Theater, Arlington Race Track Within 1 Hour: Downtown Chicago, Willis Tower, Navy Pier, Allstate Arena, Northern Illinois University The room is all yours. It's located directly downstairs from the front door of the house. You shouldn't have a need to go anywhere else in the house, really. The room has a sliding door that goes to our yard, but has no private entrance otherwise. Guests are given a key to the front door upon arrival. Feel free to come and go as you please. We don't mind folks getting in late. The laundry room is located next to the guest room and we allow guests staying at least 3 nights to do laundry. My wife and I just turned 40 years old. We aren't exactly social butterflies by nature (unlike our 12 year old daughter), but we love hosting on AirBnb. Whichever one of us is home, just let us know what you need and we'll do our best to figure it out for you! Or you can always send us a text. The house is in an unincorporated neighborhood north of St. Charles. Our house is the one split level house on a long street with no sidewalks of little ranch houses. About a half mile south down route 25, you'll start to see the streets that branch off to the million dollar houses. Our neighborhood is more on the opposite end of the spectrum, but quiet and peaceful if you ask me. Each morning, my girls walk to the elementary school about a half mile north. The school is just past a 50 acre park and across the street from a 65 acre woods, and Al Capone's former "hideaway", now defunct steakhouse sits about a mile away, down by the big bend in the river. Our driveway is large enough to hold some extra cars, and guests are welcome to park in our driveway. There's a convenience store a half-mile away, and there's plenty of other shopping within a 4-5 mile drive. If you need transportation, we just started renting out our red Mini Cooper on Turo. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested. There's also always Uber available. Allergy alert! We have two cats, but they are not allowed in the guest area. No smoking inside please. If you are a smoker, I can show you a place you can smoke. A washer and dryer are right next to the guest room - we prefer to limit the use of the washer and dryer to guests that are staying at least 3 nights.
