Make yourself at home with your German & Austrian hosts in Detroit. Your clean and safe private room in our two-family home is perfectly located near the Davison St Exit of I-96. In the lovely and quiet "Oakman Blvd Historic District". Your huge, comfy and bright room in our house in historic Detroit neighborhood offers the ideal home base for your Detroit stay. Both airbnb guest rooms are located on the upper floor of our house, as well as the kitchen and the bathroom, which are shared with maximum two other guests. LIKES AND DISLIKES Maybe the easiest way to help you make a decision is, to list those things most people like or dislike about our listing: Our guests love: o the infrastructural situation of our home: from here you reach the airport, Downtown and the suburbs quickly by car o the clean and safe home o the occasional interaction with their hosts Some of our guests dislike: o Street traffic, if you have a light sleep o We only have window A/C units in our guest rooms. So not the whole house has A/C. And we only have them installed during summer. o Some guests might be a little unsettled concerning the condition of some neighborhoods and houses of Detroit. But don't worry, our neighbors are great and already after a short time you will be comfortable. GUEST ROOM Enjoy your private guest room with morning sun that comfortably accommodates 2 guests and can be locked. It has tall walls and a supplementary skylight which is great for office work or painting. The guest room is equipped with two vast closets, where you can unpack all your stuff. If wanted we can supply a bed and for the rest you can bring your own furniture. Please note: this room is designed for a longer period of habition, e.g. for 1, 2 or 3 months. TEMPERATURE We only have window A/C units in our guest rooms. So not the whole house has A/C. And we only have them installed during summer (Memorial Day til Labor Day). Winter temperatures are controlled with a central thermostat which controls the WHOLE APARTMENT - not each room individually. The automatically adjusting NEST thermostat heats the apartment between 60 and 72 Fahrenheit - depending on the time of the day and if guests are home or not. It might take a moment to heat the apartment when the first guest comes home. This way the apartment doesn't need to be heated while no-one is home. Which saves money, energy and keeps the rent for guests low. BATHROOM and KITCHEN The bathroom and kitchen are shared with max. 2 fellow airbnb travelers who may stay at the other guest room at the same time. So you can swap your favorite Detroit venues and stories with other airbnb guests while having a cup of coffee or a drink from the fridge. Or to book both rooms and share the appartment with a fellow student or collegue. The bathroom is equipped with a bathtub. Fresh towels and basics such as shampoo, toilet paper, shower gel, etc. will be ready when you arrive. In the kitchen you will find a fridge, stove and mircrowave as well as some basic tableware such as cups, plates and cutlery. COMMUTE/LOCATION We have plenty of street parking space available around the house. When travelling by car you will appreciate the short distance to the Expressway I96. The commute from/to the airport DTW takes 20 to 35 minutes by car, depending on the trafic situation. Getting to downtown takes about 15 minutes. For shopping-, restaurant- or bar tipps have a look at our guidebook here on airbnb. CHECK-IN/OUT Basically check-in is 8pm and check-out is 11am. But we are flexible. If you arrive earlier or depart later, just ask us and we can work something out! A couple of days before you arrive we will catch up with you with some additional information and to make check-in arrangements. OUR MISSION To provide young travelers such as startup founders, blogger, students, interns, road warriors or artists with an affordable, clean, safe, comfortable and contemporary place to stay. Located within a reasonable distance to the city center. We want to prove that a cozy and attractive place to stay doesn't need to cost a couple of hundreds a night. Please don't forget: We are not offering a luxury resort but we want to offer you the best available guest experience that you can find for the low price you pay. Come and stay in one of our two airbnb guest rooms in historic Detroit neighborhood! Your German-Austrian hosts may surprise you with a random selection of our home made pastries :) You will have access to your booked guest room which can be locked with the key you will receive. Also you will have access to the shared kitchen, bathroom and the other open rooms. And when the weather is nice, please feel free to use the seats around the house and enjoy your dinner or breakfast outside! Wifi access is also free of course:) WE LOVE OUR GUESTS! So whenever Sandra, Hans or Silvia (our co-host) will be present, please feel free to ask us what you always wanted to ask. If we never bump into each other while you stay, because your timetable is so full, no problem at all, send us a message if you want to know anything. Our home is situated in the historic "Oakman Boulevard District". Along the Oakman Blvd you can find beautiful houses. Some of them lovely renovated, others like rough diamonds that still need to be polished. At the next bigger junction there are some Convenience Stores, gas stations Liquor Stores and Fast Food restaurants. The best choice to get around in "Motor City" is the car - you won't be surprised at that. If you were not travelling by car, it could make sense to rent a car right at the arrival at the airport. Our house is directly located at the EXIT 186B of the Interstate 96 (I-96). This is the best premiss to reach Downtown, the suburbs as well as the airport quickly. To drive by car from us to the following locations you need approximately (depending on the traffic situation): - Downtown Detroit 15 minutes (cobo center, little caesars arena, comerica park, ford field..) - The Palace of Auburn Hills 30 minutes - DTW Airport 20 minutes Coming from Metro Detroit Airport (DTW) you can also choose a transportation network company like Uber, Lyft oder MetroCars as an alternative to a rental car . Costs are starting from $25. (At this point of time) there is no reasonable connection by public transport neither to the DTW Airport nor to the rest of the city of Detroit . There are public buses going from the airport to Downtown Detroit, but the trip may be - depending on the time of day - very long-winded and take more time than the whole flight. Whenever there is something that makes you feel uncomfortable or whenever you have a suggestion for an improvement, PLEASE TELL US while you are here so we can try to fix it and make your stay as enjoyable as possible.Nevertheless, here are some FAQ's you might find useful :) Q: Why is no trash can in the guest room? A: Because we would not be able to empty it while you are here and so the trash would probably beginn to smell Q: Do I have extra costs when I don't have a own bed to bring to Detroit? A: No, if you need furniture, we supply the room with a queen size bed. Q: Can I charge my electric vehicle at your home? A: Yes, we pleased to make you this offer during your stay.
