Charming house with a secret garden
Charming old house in the quiet neighbourhood of Castelnuovo, only 10 minutes walk to Recanati's main square. The house has beautiful features including a fireplace and original wooden beams. There is an enclosed garden with a patio, barbeque and a vegetable patch (all of which you are welcome to use). Perfect base to discover the poet Giacomo Leopardi, opera tenor Beniamino Gigli and painter Lorenzo Lotto. The nearest beach (Porto Recanati) is 20 minutes drive. The private bedroom has a sofa bed (140cmx204cm), as well as a small table, two desks, space for clothes and a TV with Netflix. The private bathroom is recently renovated with a large bathtub and plenty of towels and essentials. The large, fully equipped kitchen is a shared space with the hosts. It has a beautiful view over typical Italian rooftop tiles to Monte Conero and the sea. Downstairs the cosy living room is perfect for winter nights by the fire. The apartment has high speed WIFI throughout. Guests are welcome to use the garden and downstairs living room during their stay. The kitchen is the main 'shared room', though it has plenty of space. If you'd like to use the BBQ or collect vegetables from the garden and make a meal in the kitchen, you are very welcome. We (Francesco and Ella) live in the house and are happy to help with information and tips for Recanati and the nearby places. Between us we speak Italian, Spanish and English fluently. You'll have plenty of privacy, but we're around if you want to be sociable too. Recanati is known as the town of poetry, as the famous poet and writer Giacomo Leopardi lived here. The town is very quaint, with well maintained cobbled streets and a beautiful main square. There are restaurants, bars and plenty of live music and little festivals during summer weekends. We recommend 'Cafe De La Paix' in the main square for a coffee or an early evening aperitivo. There is also a fantastic Gelateria in the square. If you'd like to try a nice restaurant with local dishes 'La bottega del Villaggio' is only 5 minutes away. Also for a cheaper meal, we think the best pizza to be found is at the take-out place called 'Pizzeria Romana'. There are two lovely parks, either end of Recanati. One is only two mins from our house and has a pub and a tortoise area. The other has Leopardi's favourite writing spot and also part of his tomb. It is definitely easier to bring or hire a car for exploring the towns and beaches around Recanati. There is a free public car park 2 min from the house, which we've never seen without space and where we recommend to our guests to park. For Recanati itself, you can walk to the main square in 8 mins and to the local shops (and two amazing restaurants) in 5 mins. It is 12 mins walk to bus stop with buses to Porto Recanati (12 per day), Loreto, Osimo, Ancona (15 per day) and Macerata (13 per day). The nearest beach is Porto Recanati, which you can drive or bus to in 20 mins. This is a popular beach with plenty of restaurants and beach umbrellas to hire. There are also some stunning, wilder beaches about 30-40 mins drive away including Mezzavalle and Sirolo. Ancona airport is 40 mins drive away and Bologna airport 2 1/2 hours drive away.
