Cozy living area with fireplace
My basement living area/apartment has a semi-private entrance and an open floor plan with a queen sized bed, sofa bed, large closet, dining table, bookshelves & gas fireplace. 3-piece bathroom (toilet, sink, shower). Stove & oven, microwave, apartment-sized fridge & laundry (extra charge). This is a spacious basement recreation/living room that is comfortable for an individual, a couple, or possibly a couple with a child (in the case of a child, please let me know and I can set up a futon for him/her). The sofa bed has an extra foam mattress on it to make it more comfortable, and ample bedding is provided. The dining table can double as a desk or work area, or serve for evenings in playing board games or doing a puzzle (I can provide some board games and puzzles if you would like). The gas fireplace is cozy and you are welcome to read any of the books in the space if you put them back in place when you are done. There is a TV with reception for a few local stations. There is no cable. You are welcome to borrow from our DVD collection to play on your own DVD player. Wi-Fi is also included so you can work and/or keep entertained from your laptop or mobile device. You have your own bathroom with toilet, sink and shower (including towels and toilet paper and some hotel-sized toiletries - bring your own soap and shampoo if staying longer than a couple of nights, please). There is a working oven, stove, microwave and apartment-sized fridge and other small appliances in the kitchen, along with pots and pans and dishes and cutlery. The lower level space has semi-private access from the back door of the house. I occasionally need to access some items and appliances (freezer, laundry and storage) in the space, but will do my best to make your stay as interruption-free as possible. If I do need to access something in the basement (barring any emergency), I will give you advance notice and we can work out the best time of mutual convenience for me to go downstairs. Our washer and dryer are in the basement, and you may use them for an additional charge of $5 per load. The main level of the house is occupied. You are free to use the backyard if we are not using it. When I am around and available, I'm happy to chat with you briefly and recommend local points of interest or answer any questions you may have. I live a block from the cute village of Olde Stoney Creek. It's a beautiful walk down the main street to our local recreation centre, where you can use a wonderful indoor pool, and to a number of shops and cafes. Our surrounding area is full of walking trails, including the Bruce Trail, the Devil's Punchbowl Conservation Area and many more. Hamilton is the city of waterfalls. There is a lovely paved path along the Lake Ontario shore at Confederation Park, 15 minutes drive away. Eastgate Square is a large shopping mall only 5 minutes away. Battlefield Park, about 1.5 kms down the street, takes you back in time, hosting historic events throughout the year, including a re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek from the War of 1812, every 1st weekend of June. Stoney Creek is a great place to stay and explore locally, or use as a home base for your ventures to nearby cities, as we are located between Niagara Falls and Toronto. 4.5 km from the QEW (Centennial Parkway exit), or 3km from the Red Hill Expressway (King St exit). While a car is recommended (and a parking space is provided), the #58 bus stops just two blocks from my home and will get you to Eastgate Square shopping mall in under 15 minutes. From there, you can get to any other area of Hamilton by city bus, including the Hamilton GO Centre, which serves the Toronto/Hamilton/Niagara area by commuter train and bus. There is also a GO bus that stops at Nash Rd N. and Barton St. (30-45 mins by bus from my home), and can get you to Toronto, Niagara Falls and points in between. My neighbourhood is very walkable, and is also great for cycling. We have two kitties. They will remain upstairs, though it is possible they escape to the basement by accident once in a while. If you catch them downstairs, please help them get back upstairs to us. They are not outdoor cats; please do not let them get outside.
