The apartment is located in the old part of town. There is a walking distance to several grocery stores, restaurants, and lovely shops. A 5 minute walk will take you to the river Guadiana where you can take a ferry to Spain that will take 15 minutes. In this river you can sometimes also see dolphins on their way out to the Atlantic! In the area you can also see large Sea salt pans, and you can watch many different birds, even Flamingos. If you like to walk there are many possibilities with marked tracks. In the wintertime Vila Real is a popular place that attracts professional athletes from all over Europe for their winter training. If you are a golfer then Algarve is a paradise. There are many golf courses in the area, with just a 10 minute drive. We are members in Quinta de Vale, a lovely Seve Ballesteros designed course. Parking space is just outside the house but here you have to pay a parking fee. One block down you can park free. In the summer there is a little local train that will take you from the center to the beach in 10 minutes. For the cost of 1 Euro, the train goes every half hour in both directions.
