Cosy farm stay in Salzburg Lake District
Enjoy a stay in a charming room with en suite bathroom on an idyllic farm in the Salzburg Lake District with views of the mountains. From the farm you have direct access to the beautiful brook Mattig, beautiful hiking trails in the adjacent forest and only 10 minutes walk to the Mattsee. This cozy location is an ideal starting point for excursions to Salzburg and the surrounding areas. The owners are Austrian-Irish and will be able to assist you in English. The sunny room has a separate balcony that looks at the large linden tree at the front of the farm. The room is spacious and used to be the master bedroom for many generations. Each morning you’re invited across the courtyard to enjoy a hearty traditional Austrian breakfast buffet, in our cozy farm tavern or out on the terrace under the majestic walnut tree. Features: - Box spring bed (200 x 180 cm) with high quality mattresses, topper and anti-allergenic bedding - also available as a twin bed - Desk - Bathroom with shower and WC - Hair dryer - Internet TV - Balcony - Free Wi-Fi - Black-out blinds for a good sleep Guests can use the garden and playground. The cozy farm-tavern with a beautiful ambiance under the walnut tree is open for breakfast. There is also a lounge at the "Salettl" with an open-air bar and a terrace in the orchard, which is open to guests on certain evenings. The Orchard Terrace, with its private south-facing location, offers a unique view of the river Mattig and the forest below. Guests are also welcome to borrow a set of bowls to watch the sunset over a game of “bawls” on our bawls pitch. We live on the farm and are happy to assist you during your stay with recommendations for activities and day-trip destinations. We are Austrian-Irish and will be able to assist you in English. You are also welcome to get an insight into the work on the farm and our project to redesign the farm along the principles of permaculture. Our children Elliot and Robin are also happy to be playmates for your children. The farm is a perfect starting point for many trips. There is direct access to the river "Mattig" and the farm owned forest with endless walking opportunities. You can also access the three lakes Mattsee, Grabensee and Obertrumer See within a few minutes walking or by bike. The surrounding areas play host to a wide variety of local wildlife, on a given day while walking through the forest you can spot deer, pheasant, and many species of birds. There are plenty of beautiful private and public locations to go swimming in the lakes, that heats up to very pleasant 25C in the summer months. On windy days the nearby Mattsee Lake is a great place to try wind and kite surfing, as well as sailing classes that are regularly on offer. Take a visit to one of the earliest settlements by the Bajuwaren in the local town of Mattsee, preserved as a local history attraction. Old time car enthusiasts will enjoy the nearby museum Fahr(T)raum about the history of history of Ferdinand Porsche that also hosts events throughout the year. This area also prides itself on the sustainability of its fresh produce, from fish caught in the local lakes and rivers, meats and vegetables, as well as arguably the best free-range eggs in Austria, produced right here on the farm! - - - Cycling in the area is very popular and many road and off-road cycle lanes help you meander your way through the beautiful countryside. For beer fans, tours are available at the local Trumer Brew house where visitors can watch and taste the process up close! Traditional music concerts can be found in the nearby towns, bars and restaurants. We recommend to arrive by car. We are happy to inform you about good offers. If you do not want to use a car, there are also very good bus connections from Salzburg with a bus stop directly in front of the farm. The farm is operational: we have around 2000 happy chickens, laying lots of happy eggs! In the summer months we pick fruits to make jam and other local delicacies. We also offer courses, such as bread baking, and cooking classes for jam and traditional Austrian foods. You may also be able to inspect and learn about the history of farm machinery and how it has changed over the years.
