The Cottage is a beautiful newly refurbished barn situated in the Lakeland Fells. With views of Weatherlamb and Coniston Old Man, The Cottage is the perfect place to relax, take in the views and get away from it all. Located within the small holding of Crooked Birch, Herdwick sheep, pet goats and a few free-range chickens roam around the adjacent fields. With the Cumbrian Way and footpaths located near to the property, enthusiastic walkers can explore the stunning countryside. The Cottage is a newly converted stable fitted out with brand new high quality furniture and furnishings . Light floods into the front room from two large picture windows which have uninterrupted views of the National Park and mountains. Off the open plan living area is the comfortable bedroom, newly furnished with a pewter-effect King size bed, oak painted furniture, a pretty feature window and skylight. The ensuite bathroom boasts a large walk-in shower with grip rails and a skylight window. A shower seat is available if required. The Cottage has its own dedicated outside space with two seating areas; a front patio and the Cottage Garden (a private and enclosed dog-secure space). There is also a separate laundry room and cycle store. The whole house is on one level and easily accessible. One well-behaved dog is allowed and, due to extra cleaning and laundry costs, there is an extra charge of £7 per night. This charge will be requested once you have booked. We have dog bowls, a dog bed and medium dog crate if required. The Cottage Garden is a secure area for your dog. Access to The Cottage is through the drive way signed Crooked Birch. Drive past the main house to the small cottage on the right, through the menage to a parking area next to the fence. There is plenty of parking space and a good turning area. Although we live adjacent to The Cottage, access to the house is via a key safe and this information will be sent to you, along with directions and arrival/ departure instructions before your visit. I am always available to help and give any information guests need. A tasty welcome pack awaits you complete with wine, biscuits, coffee, tea, milk and coffee pods for the Nespresso machine. Guests are also welcome to a box of our very own free range eggs if requested and if the hens are laying!! The Cottage is located within the small holding of Crooked Birch on Subberthwaite Common within the Lake District National Park. There are two neighbouring farms a few miles away from the property. The nearest shops are located 8 miles away in the Market Town of Ulverston . Ulverston is a pretty town with a huge range of independent shops, restaurants , cafes and pubs. Boasting a leisure and tennis centre, theatre and cinema there is always lots to do and entertainment on offer. The e supermarket, Booths, can be found just as you enter the town. There is also an Aldi and M&S Food store. Coniston is only 10 miles away with Bowness being only a 20 mile journey. The tourist resort of Ambleside is 18 miles away. The nearest beaches are in Bardsea which is only 10 miles from the house. The small village of Greenodd is a 10 minute drive from the house and has an excellent bakery and cafe, an ice-cream parlour, fish and chip shop, butchers, grocery store and post office. Opposite there is a lawn tennis and croquet club, open to non-members. You will need a car to get around although there is a train station in Ulverston which will take you to the quaint town of Grange Over Sands with its promenade and variety of traditional shops and eateries. You can also use the train to get into Lancaster if you want to explore our nearest city. Kendal town is only a 40 minute journey from the house. Getting around by bike is also a great way of seeing the Lakes. Bikes can be stored securely in the Laundry and Bike Store located next to The Cottage. One well-behaved dog or two small dogs are allowed and, due to extra cleaning and laundry costs, there is an extra charge of £7 per night. This charge will be requested once you have booked. We have dog bowls, a dog bed and medium dog crate if required. The Cottage Garden is a secure area for your dog. We have sheep, goats, 2 dogs and chickens so would request that dogs remain on a lead when walking through our fields. There are lots of sheep, highland cattle and horses on the fell so please bear this in mind when walking your dog. Crooked Birch is a 'working' small holding so we are busy feeding the animals and working on the farm in the grounds. Our own home is opposite the side of The Cottage so you will see us around. We love chatting and getting to know our guests but if you want complete privacy that's absolutely fine. Every guest is different!
