McEwans Green - Unique Heritage Riverside Stay

McEwan's Green is a special stay, perfect for 2. A self-contained accommodation on the grounds of a historical property, McEwan's Green is a place to connect with new stories and old ways. The property is central and easily accessible along the main street of the small, riverside town of Franklin. At McEwan's Green, we believe in green thumbs, dirty hands and muddy boots. If you have IG, you can follow both our guests and us at @mcewansgreen Cosy and accessible, you'll have everything you need to bunker down with the wood heater and a good book or glass of Shiraz. Or explore the open, green spaces of the property with a sunset picnic or some stargazing by the bonfire. Like most of Franklin town, the property is a stone's throw from the glassy waters of the Huon River. McEwan's Green is a self-contained, private stay at a heritage-listed property. You'll have your own separate guest suite with your own entrance and parking spaces. The guest suite forms part of the original heritage house which has since been divided into 2 residences. Note: Sometimes we (and family) stay in the other adjoining part of the house and you might see us and our dogs about the property as we look after the gardens and our feathered friends. We'll do our best to keep out of your way! In the spirit of village living, there are common, shared outdoor spaces such as the gardens and grounds. The gardens are a great place to wander with your morning coffee or sit under the walnut tree and enjoy the quiet. We're also partial to a picnic in the field at the back. As the vegetable gardens are an ongoing work-in-progress, our housekeepers will advise you as to what is in season and ready to pick. Occasionally, we may be staying next door in the adjoining residence or you may see our housekeepers and their dogs about the property as they look after the gardens and our feathered friends. They're more than happy to share with you what they love about life in the Huon Valley. In Franklin, we’re far enough to feel a world away from everything, but only 40 mins from Hobart. It’s the ideal place to stay for your adventures exploring the Huon Valley. As we're in a rural area, public transport is quite limited (bus) and you might find it a little difficult getting around the Huon Valley without a car. We strongly recommend hiring a car from Hobart (or Hobart Airport) for your stay. There is also the Tassielink bus service which runs buses between Hobart CBD and the Huon Valley - the 716, 718 and 719 buses pass through Franklin and stop near the Franklin Post Office. It can be quite a limited on weekends (a service to/from Franklin every 2-3 hrs). For more info on timetables, fares and stops, please see the Tassielink website. Please note, McEwan's Green is not suitable for children or pets due to the fragile nature of the furnishings and some of the hazards around the property. If you would like to bring an infant, please submit a booking enquiry. We frequently have furry and feathered friends roaming the property - in fact, it's one of the reasons people love to stay here! However, if you have any concerns about dogs or chickens, please let us know in advance - this listing might not be suitable for you if you wish to avoid the presence of animals. The bathroom has a step-in shower/bath - if you have mobility issues, this listing might not be suitable for you. Our minimal kitchen includes a 4 burner stove, oven, bar fridge, kettle and toaster as well as tea and coffee facilities (plunger and stovetop). Our pantry is stocked with a few essential items including: Black and Herbal Teas, Ground Coffee, Sugar, Salt, Pepper & Olive Oil. Please feel free to pop into the local Woolworths in Huonville on your way into Franklin and grab some supplies. The property is within a stone's throw of the local pub - which is great if you don’t want to cook! Occasionally, you may hear a little noise or music from an event on the weekend. The nearest bottleshop is also in Huonville (and they often shut earlier at 8pm) - we recommend you grab a bottle or two of your favourite wine on your way through. Please read through the Location info - public transport in the Huon Valley (and Tasmania for that matter) can be limited. If you don't have a car, we recommend hiring one for your stay to make getting around easy! There is a lot of demand for hire cars in Tasmania - we recommend booking one for your trip as soon as you can. We strongly recommend that our guests have travel insurance. Occasionally, winter weather can temporarily close roads due to snow or ice which may disrupt travel plans. We recommend you contact your insurance provider to help with claiming for the cost of disrupted travel plans. Since this is a travel issue, we don't issue refunds and may not be able to extend your stay due to other bookings. We're committed to an enhanced cleaning process due to the coronavirus, including disinfecting frequently touched surfaces between bookings.
