Old Alpaca Shed
Not a shed for old alpacas, but a shed that formerly housed alpacas. Now it's a light-filled studio with a queen sized bed and sitting area. There's a beautiful outdoor shower, environmentally friendly composting loo and paved patio. The shed consists of studio accommodation featuring a queen-sized bed, small lounge area and desk, outdoor shower, composting loo (great views and no smell!), porch, basic outdoor kitchen (with sink, electric frypan, tea and coffee, toaster, cool box), great views and fantastic serenity. We provide a large cool brick but suggest that guests pick up a bag of ice from The Channon General Store on the way here. Towels and bedding are also provided. Enjoy the views from the covered porch. Read a book in the hammock. Stroll down to the creek to spot water dragons, turtles, kingfishers, wallabies and maybe even a platypus. Hand feed the small herd of alpacas (food provided). Challenge your travelling companion to a match of Boules on the lawn, or, in cooler weather, light a fire in the fire pit. We are a 20-minute drive from the historic and spectacular Protesters Falls (and pristine rainforest walk), a 5-minute drive from The Channon Pub, The Channon Tea House, and The Channon Store (for groceries, alcohol, petrol and post), and a 15-minute drive from The Dunoon Sports Club. There are many awesome bush walks in the surrounding area, and less than an hour away are the beautiful beaches of Byron Bay, Lennox Head, Brunswick Heads and Ballina. Guests have complete access to the shed, porch, outdoor shower and composting toilet, and small lawn at the front of the shed. We live up the hill from the shed, however are happy to stay in the background to enable guests to concentrate on enjoying the peace and quiet in privacy. The Channon is a picturesque and unique village in the Byron Bay hinterland. It is within an hour's drive of the beaches, cafes, pubs and restaurants of Byron Bay; 35 minutes from the historic township of Bangalow; and 20 minutes from Clunes in one direction and Nimbin in the other. The area is home to a varied mix of people from all walks of life who value community, the environment and creativity. The nearest service centre is Lismore, half an hour away. On foot is the best option for spotting local wildlife and enjoying the beautiful surrounds. The village is a 45-minute scenic walk away. A car is necessary to go further afield. During school terms there is also a weekday bus that leaves from the top of the road every morning (8am) to Lismore (arriving at 8.45am), and returning each afternoon (leaving Lismore at 3.45pm and returning to The Channon at 4.15pm). The road to this property is steep and rugged in places. Most cars manage it but it is best suited to cars with more clearance and/or 4WDs.
