Luxury in a rural, relaxing and private setting

If you want a luxury getaway in quiet rural surrounds then River Retreat is for you. A delicious continental breakfast tray is provided and a super comfy bed. You can eat out or make your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen. We have 10 acres next to the river and the Hororata golf course is just next door plus lovely views of the Malvern hills. We are next to Inland Scenic route 77 and the Rakaia and Waimak gorges are only a 15 minute drive away. And Ballooning only 5 minutes away. River Retreat accommodation is a barn that we built in 2013 and converted half into accommodation in which we lived in for a year whilst building our house. When we moved out we fully redecorated, recarpted and put in a log burner. It is completely separate from our house with its own garden and outdoor seating area. It is best suited for a couple but there is a sofa bed in the lounge with bedding provided which can sleep an extra 2. There is great cellphone coverage, free Wifi, Satellite TV including Sky sport, DVD's, board games and a library. You can sit outside on the patio and enjoy the views of the hills or if it is a cold day you can light the fire and enjoy the cosiness inside. We are pet friendly but please let us know beforehand as we have our animals and need to make sure they will all get along first. We have our own pets - 2 dogs, 2 cats and a horse Guests are welcome to walk around the property and there is access down to the Selwyn river. There are walks along the river or on the hill at the rear of our property. Allan and I are earthquake refugees from Christchurch who are happy to have found our haven out in Coalgate. We love it so are sure you will too. We enjoy meeting people from all over the world and sharing our bit of paradise. Guests can park right outside and a key to the unit and will be provided with their own key. We also have a outdoor spa/hot-tub that guests are welcome to use on request. We work from home so are usually around if you need anything. We are happy to answer any questions you have during your stay. We value our privacy and will do the same with yours. Coalgate is a small rural town in Canterbury close to skifields, golf courses and many other outdoor activities. With rambling hillside views and the Sewlyn river on our doorstep it is an ideal place to relax and unwind. We are 45 minutes from Christchurch and there is no public transport so you will need a car. We are 10 minutes from Darfield which has a supermarket, petrol stations, restaurants, post office, as well as ski hire and much more. Prices are for 2 Adults per night, Children under 1yr - free Additional $20 per Adult and $10 per child per night. The unit is best suited for a couple but the sofa bed in the lounge can accommodate 1-2 people. Please note there is a wall between the 2 rooms but no door. There are also skylights in both rooms which means it will be light earlier in the morning in the Summer. But you can lie in bed and see the stars on a clear night. :) For eating out the Coalgate Tavern nearby serves bistro meals from Thurs to Sun nights, the Hororata cafe (5 mins by car) is open for dinner until 8pm Thur, Fri, Sat otherwise Darfield (10 mins by car) has restaurants, takeaways and a supermarket open Mon - Sun. The Glentunnel dairy nearby is well stocked as well.
