The large living area and well equipped kitchen are furnished to an exceptional standard. The owners have refurbished the Stables with the feel of a superior country house hotel standard. What makes The Stables so special however is not just its perfect location for exploring Dorset, but the outside space which we would love you to enjoy. The gardens and paddocks stretch to over an acre with fruit trees, millstream, waterfall, stepping stones in the shallow stream and a number of specimen plants and trees. The paddocks are perfect for family games of football and rounders, or the simple pleasure of flying a kite. At sunset, settle down with a glass in hand and watch the sun setting over the stunning Dorset countryside before eating al-fresco beside the mill stream, or walk less than 100 steps to the cracking Thimble Inn pub with its great food, draught beers and selection of gins! The beds in the 3 double bedrooms can be used as either super-kings or twins, depending on your preference. Bedroom 4 on the first floor is perfect for a child sleeping in a single bed or a baby in a travel cot. The beds are super-comfy and seriously large! We can provide a travel cot in this room if needed. It is perfect for younger guests who need to be close to their parents. Adjustable heating via radiator thermostat. Single aspect window with rear view across the gardens and paddocks. All the basic kitchen bits and bobs, such as crockery, china, saucepans are provided for your use. The kitchen has a fridge, oven, toaster and microwave available for your use and so it is up to you how much or little you wish to be in the kitchen! You are welcome to use our BBQ. There are so many good places to eat nearby that you'll be spoiled for choice. Plenty of car parking on site. Guests are invited to use the paddocks and gardens. There is an area of garden to the side of our own property, Whites Dairy House, which is reserved for our family's use. We have lived in Dorset for 21 years and know the area well. We are able to offer recommendations on places to visit, pubs, restaurants, cafes, beaches and child-friendly attractions. There is a good selection of leaflets available for guests use available in The Stables or feel free to ask for recommendations. Piddlehinton is a charming, Dorset village. The community is a mix of young families and retired folk, many who have lived here for much of their lives. The local pub, The Thimble Inn, is a great meeting place at the weekends and the food is fabulous. Booking is essential. The Millennium Green, which can be walked to off-road from The Stables, has a wooden play fort, swings and see-saw. Village events often take place here, including the annual rounders tournament, open to all! Piddlehinton hosts the summer fete, which combines all the wonderful traditions, characters and eccentricities of a Dorset village! There is a small shop in Piddletrenthide (3 mins in the car) for milk, bread, newspapers, deli and canned items or the larger supermarkets including Waitress, Tesco and Lidl's in Dorchester (15 minutes drive away). With bridlepaths and public footpaths on our doorstep, why not leave the car here and take off on foot. We can provide maps and refreshment break suggestions along the way. Ample car parking is provided on site. A very limited bus service operates into Dorchester and Weymouth from Piddlehinton, but a car is recommended to make the most out of your stay. The closest mainline train station is located in Dorchester (15 mins drive away), which will take you to London, Weymouth and Exeter St Davids, and all the stops in between. Taxis can be booked locally. The nearest ferry port is Poole (30 mins drive away). The nearest airport is located at Bournemouth (45 mins drive away). We want your stay to be as chilled and relaxed as it can possibly be. We have children ourselves and know it can be nerve-wracking staying somewhere new, particularly with extensive gardens and water! Okay, this is what you need to know ... The Old Stables is located in the picturesque village of Piddlehinton. The B3173 backs onto the property and you may be aware of some road noise from local traffic at certain points in the day. The road has a 30 mph speed limit and is narrow in parts. Care should be taken when exiting the property as visibility is quite difficult, however we do provide mirrors to assist with this. An iron five-bar gate separates our driveway and parking area from the road. We ask that this gate is kept shut at all times as we have a family dog. Families of our younger guests should be aware of the millstream, small river running through the lower paddock and the small waterfall in the grounds which whilst make the surroundings so beautiful, but could be a danger to small children and pets. Please ensure younger children are supervised. The banks leading to the shallow millstream are grassed and can get slippy. Wellies are definitely recommended! The trampoline is available for the use of guests, however IT IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. Children should be supervised at all times.
