La Val Colla, il cui percorso dal Monte Gazzirola segue per circa 10 km il fiume Cassarate, è compresa nell'Inventario federale dei paesaggi, siti e monumenti naturali di importanza nazionale e nella zona di interesse naturalistico cantonale. Si incontrano Bogno, Certara e Cimadera e Valcolla, quest'ultimo istituito nel 1956 dalla fusione dei piccoli Comuni di Colla, Insone, Piandera, Scareglia e Signôra, nati probabilmente per la transumanza alpestre del bestiame.
