The Risk Valley Farm Cottage

The Risk Valley farm cottage is recently built, combining modern, traditional and privacy located in the foothills of Mt Lion and the Border Rangers NP. The farm is 230 acres of magical mountain views, breeding cattle and horses. The cottage features a large veranda and patio to take in the view over the valley. Easy drive to Kyogle, as well as beaches of Byron, Lennox and Brunswick just over an hour. Within 2 hours of the Gold Coast and Brisbane, this is the perfect romantic country getaway. The cottage is totally private from the main house and has a new rustic kitchenette, no stove but hotplates, microwave and slow cooker's etc. Both heated and air conditioned with Bi-fold doors that will open the living area to the veranda for long summer days. The patio is flood lit with a small new barbeque and fire pit, both with beautiful valley views. Television and DVD's to use, plus mobile and internet (telstra 4g & nbn reception). About 2 km's of gravel road to the cottage from the Summerland Way and only a short 5 minute run to the quaint village of Wiangaree if you require supplies. Kyogle is the 'Rainforest Gateway', so an abundance of places to visit in the region or just soak up the country atmosphere. We're very happy to assist with local knowledge and any walks around the hills, creek and river. Generally somebody is around the main house or working nearby. If not I'll be easily contacted. Our farm is situated in the historic farming area of The Risk. We are surrounded by cattle and dairy farms with a small primary school and hall across the creek. The property is at the bottom of Grady's creek that starts up at the Border Ranges and joins the Richmond River on the edge of our creek flats. We have a wonderful rickety timber bridge to cross the Richmond River and drive through a small railway tunnel. If you love trains and the history we have the Sydney to Brisbane rail line over on the flat, plus the remnants of the Risk Station from yesteryear close by. If you're not, we only have a handful of trains, generally at night. The village of Wiangaree has a general store and is 5 minutes drive and Kyogle has a larger shopping centre and is 15 minutes. We fell in love with this area and the locals some 16 years ago and enjoy the ease to get to the major cities, coast or simply enjoy the quaint villages dotted around the Byron Hinterland. We are situated at the bottom of the Lions Road that joins Running Creek Road at the Queensland border which is 80 km's from home to Beaudesert. Also a longer route is Mt Lindsey via Rathdowney. Kyogle is 70 km's to Murwillumbah and 60 to Lennox Head and Byron Bay. Lismore from Kyogle is 40 km away and a major town and shopping centre. There is also Nimbin 30 km away if you fancy a alternate experience. The World Heritage Border Range NP is a short 10 minute drive away, plus there are many more if you want to venture a little further away. Any car is suitable driving here. If there is huge rain we can get cut at our bridge. This is generally only in summer and requires huge rainfall. We have plenty of warning normally and have not ever been trapped without warning. The cottage also has a supply of basic food's etc....Coffee, tea, sugar, olive oil, spreads, dressing and mustard as well as breakfast needs supplied fresh on arrival.....Bread, milk, butter, cereal, fruit and fresh farm eggs etc.
