The Huon Burrow is a unique underground house nestled into the hillside with amazing views over the Huon River within easy walking distance of cafes and restaurants and the Wooden Boat Centre at historic Franklin in the Huon Valley. The Huon Burrow has half a metre of material on the roof composed of soil, gravel and insulation on top of a waterproof barrier, then 20 tons of concrete and about one ton of reinforced steel. Being buried into the hillside, buttressed with amazing stonework, the dwelling has relatively stable temperatures throughout the year requiring little to heat or cool. The patio is enclosed in cooler months with cafe blinds and the chiminea is great for extra cozy warmth. It is fully self-contained with a full kitchen and washing machine. We provide breakfast provisions, fresh milk, and fruit in season. We are well based to explore further south and throughout the Huon Valley, famous for its walking trails, vineyards, and fruit growing. The dwelling is self-contained with its own entrance. You can park close to the front of the building. There is ample turnaround space and parking for larger vehicles. Adjoining the underground dwelling we have built a shipping container home for us which allows privacy for your stay with us. So we're not far away if you need anything. Huon Burrow is within walking distance of cafes, restaurants, a children's play area and the Wooden Boat Centre and the Living Boat Trust at historic Franklin on the Huon River. Generally, the use of a car is easier in this rural area, however, there is a local bus service that connects with Hobart. The Burrow is within easy walking distance of Franklin's cafes and restaurants.
