When we are not there we are contactable by phone or email. We want you to have the most comfortable and enjoyable stay possible so if there is anything else you need, just ask!  Even though this property offers the perfect getaway from it all, there are still plenty of things to explore and discover in the local area. The house is situated in North Dorset, close to the Somerset and Wiltshire borders. Having lived in the area all our lives, we would be happy to offer any advice on things to do in this beautiful area. Whether you are looking to explore the countryside, do a spot of fishing, enjoy some delicious food or find somewhere to entertain the children, Here are a selection of our favourite nearby attractions.  Duncliffe Wood: Just a short walk away, this magnificent ancient woodland sits on the twin summits of Duncliffe Hill and offers a fantastic view from the house. Explore its mix of open glades, rides and trees, including the old coppice stools of small-leaved limes. It’s a delightful place to discover wildlife and is a site of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI). Look out for butterflies, bats, birds and wonderful wild flowers, such as moschatel, yellow archangel, wood speedwell and early-purple orchid. The Udder Farm Shop, East Stour: The award-winning Udder Farm Shop is just under 2 miles away by road and can also be accessed in under a mile via the footpaths. It incorporates a butchery, deli, fishmongers, coffee shop, restaurant and farm shop offering local food, products, gifts and meats.  Their team of talented chefs produce hearty breakfasts, seasonal specials, afternoon teas, Sunday roasts and homemade desserts from local produce, all freshly cooked. Outside is a children's play area and seating. There are a couple of country pubs within 2-3 miles away - The Kings Arms, East Stour Common and The Ship Inn at West Stour. Both serve great food and drink and perfect for families. Just 10 minutes drive away are the nearby towns of Gillingham and Shaftesbury. Shaftesbury is home to the famous cobbled Gold Hill, a glorious setting made famous in the much loved "Hovis" advert. It has an array of independent shops and cafés and offers stunning views over the Blackmore Vale. Gillingham's train station runs from London to Exeter and is home to several supermarkets including Waitrose, Lidl, Aldi, Iceland and Asda. Both Gillingham and Shaftesbury have a great selection of pubs and restaurants, some of which offer takeaway and delivery including British, Italian, Indian, Chinese and Thai. They both have museums where you can discover their interesting histories. If you are looking for more to do, within 30-40 minutes drive away there are plenty of other great attractions, such as Longleat Safari Park, Stonehenge, Haynes International Motor Museum and much more. We would recommend a car for your trip to get the most out of exploring the area. There are footpaths across the fields which lead to the nearby shop and pubs, as well as some great routes for walking. In late Autumn, there are an abundance of blackberries and sloes to be picked along the footpaths.
