The Cart Lodge - a unique 1 bedroom rural retreat.
Welcome to the Cart Lodge, a loft room for two located in the heart of the Waveney Valley. It sits within the garden of our family home, nestled above the rural village of Wingfield on the edges of the Norfolk/Suffolk border. The village has a pub and cafe within walking distance, and gastropubs and restaurants a short drive away. With many nearby walks through the beautiful countryside, and the renowned Suffolk coastline only 40 minutes away, this is the perfect rural retreat. The Cart-Lodge is a newly built room above a timber oak framed double garage, with it’s own en-suite bathroom. It is the perfect space to relax and unwind with contemporary furnishings and a cosy reading area. It has it’s own private balcony with views across the garden and the village fields beyond. You can enjoy the wildlife and get back to nature with our brilliant outdoor shower shack, providing a natural approach to showering with lots of hot water and cosy robes for the short walk back upstairs to your balcony and room. IMPORTANT- PLEASE NOTE Due to the risk of frost the shower shack is NOT available from the beginning of November to end of February. Unfortunately we are not able to offer an alternative shower facility during these months. You have access to a private off-road parking area. There is a lovely seating area underneath the balcony looking out onto a small orchard with lots of apples, pears, quinces and plums towards the end of the summer. Our home is set within 3/4 of an acre of garden with free roaming chickens, a pond and lots of wildlife to enjoy. The Cart-Lodge is built within the garden of our family home so we are always available should you have any problems. However, the building is completely private with it’s own entrance on the far side of a separate building, facing away from the main house. You are able to collect the key from a key safe next to the entrance and do not have to interact at all if that is your preference. Wingfield is a small rural village with it’s own pub, church and cafe, located approx 1/2 - 1 mile from our property. Wingfield Barns is a short walk away and hosts many different art exhibitions, workshops, music and theatre productions. Have a look at their website for more information. We are a short drive from a variety of lovely market towns, including Harleston, Bungay, Halesworth and Framlingham, all with their own independent shops and historical places of interest. There are many great places to eat and drink close by, our village pub the “De La Pole Arms” serves a fabulous Sunday roast if booked in advance, while the “Fox & Goose” 2 miles away in Fressingfield has an exceptional fine dining menu and the reputation to go with it. There are historic pubs nearby such as the “Swan Inn” in Hoxne and the “Lowhouse” in Laxfield. You can enjoy cocktails at the “Oaksmere” or the best pizza for miles at the “Kings Head” in Brockdish. Wingfield is approx 40 minutes from the Suffolk coast with it’s beautiful beaches and opportunities for wild swimming throughout the year. The Cart-Lodge is approx 20 minutes from Diss train station, which is on a direct line from London Liverpool St, Ipswich & Norwich, taxis can be booked in advance from the station. However there is ample private off road parking available and a car is recommended if you wish to travel and visit places outside the village. The shower is not contained within the main en-suite bathroom, it does have plenty of space and hot water though and is situated just beneath your room. Access is via outdoor stairs and a footpath. Due to the risk of frost, the shower is not available from November to February. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room but no kitchen area. However, breakfast, drinks, cheese and meat platters can be provided directly to your room or balcony. All of these would need to be requested in advance and will incur an additional charge. Please don’t hesitate to contact us directly for more information. There is a cafe in the village that serves breakfast from 9am Wednesday to Sunday.
