Two beautiful, unique and lovingly renovated properties in the Cretan village of Xirosterni. A traditionally styled yet sensitively updated 1 bedroom house. A separate barn converted into a stunning & spacious contemporary studio apartment. Both sit in an enclosed courtyard garden with plenty of sunbathing, seating and eating areas. 10 min drive to nearest beach. Available together (ideal for 2 couples, or 1 couple with older children). Traditional, ecological and reclaimed materials were used throughout, retaining the character of the original property as possible, while sympathetically updating to provide a comfortable living space. The bedroom in the house is very spacious with large double bed, dressing table, wardrobe, & sitting/reading area, leading out to a small private roof terrace with village and mountain views. Downstairs is a cosy and spacious sitting/dining room, handcrafted and well equipped kitchen, and bespoke Moroccan plastered shower room, toilet and washbasin area. Outside in the stone paved courtyard is a large stone table and handmade wooden benches for dining and drinking, as well as outdoor sofa and chairs. The barn is a light and airy space, with a small sofabed, armchair and coffee table in the living area, table and chairs for two in the dining area, and a small but practical kitchen area. A step up separates the comfortable bedroom, bathroom and dressing room from the living areas. There is also a bamboo screen for extra cosiness and privacy in the bedroom. Outside in the pretty garden is a table & chairs for two, and sunbathing terrace. The barn can also be used as a comfortable office/workspace. A special feature as you enter the property is the "hayat" or entrance shelter, a rustic space ideal for sitting in the cool shade, featuring hand made pebble tiles, a large bench and chairs. The garden contains lemon trees, beautifully scented roses, flowers and herbs, as well as different areas for eating, sitting and sunbathing. The thick stone walls of both properties ensure a pleasant temperature in summer without the need for air con. Both properties have wood burners for chilly nights. Ideal as an artists retreat. We are also available on the phone, email, (Hidden by Airbnb) etc. Xirosterni is a beautiful small traditional Cretan village. It has a well stocked mini market with friendly staff, and a taverna/kafeneion with a simple & good Cretan menu, both in easy walking distance. The larger historical villages of Vamos, Gavalohori, and Kefalas are all within a 5 minute drive, with many more coffee shops/tavernas/mini markets plus bakeries. Vamos also hosts an excellent and informative Tourist Information Office. The area is excellent for walking, there are many different tracks and trails, some of which are accessible without a car. The area is also popular with keen cyclists, although hilly! The small sandy beach of Almyrida is within a 10 minute drive, and the larger beaches of Kalyves and Georgioupolis are also easily accessible by car. The beautiful cities of Chania and Rethymno are around 40 minutes drive away. The property is around 45 minutes drive from Chania airport, and around 1 hour 50 minutes drive from Heraklion. A car is essential to really make the most of your stay - there are no local buses from the village. You can park right outside the property. There are beautiful walks you can take directly from the property.
