Glamping meets drive & survive ! Dordogne, France Nestled in the heart of La Foret de la Double the 50,000 acre forest found between the rivers Dronne and Isle in Northern Dordogne, this secluded venue offers a unique holiday experience. Secluded , peaceful and with scope to fully enjoy a 'back to nature experience, the property is also only a short drive away from civilisation, and some of the most beautiful spots in the Dordogne. The property comprises a three and a half acre fishing lake located in thirty seven acres of private woodland. The lake in contrast to the area is well populated and the woodland is home to a variety of wildlife. On your first night here you will feel like you have stepped back in time. Light, noise and traffic pollution become a thing of the past, the only sounds being water flowing into the lake and that of the animals and birds inhabiting the forest. Accommodation comprises a one bedroom cabin which sleeps two and a large area suitable for the pitching of tents. We can provide and pre-pitch a traditional bell tent and or a modern family tent, both of which comfortably sleep four adults. The cabin comprises a double bedroom, galley kitchen, shower room, and sitting /dining room. The cabin benefits from gas fired hot water, cooker and fridge and gas heater. The cabin has a covered terrace with garden furniture and BBQ / fire pit area.. This venue will not suit everyone, it is remote and completely off grid. However if you're after some quality family time away from modern distractions, real privacy and have a passion for wildlife and wild fishing this could be the venue for you ! A three and a half acre lake, off-grid cabin & thirty seven acres of private woodland. We will meet you on arrival and get you settled in, similarly we will be around at the end of your stay. We can be called in emergencies or to give advice but the ethos of the holiday is privacy so we won't be visiting unless you ask us to ! The property although secluded is only to a short drive away from many beautiful villages , attractions and outdoor leisure opportunities. Saint Vincent -Jalmoutier is only 2.5 KM away, this peaceful village has a shop and cafe open seven days a week and wonderful picnic area on the banks of La Rizonne. The nearest town of Saint Aulaye is 7 KM from the property. In addition to being the nearest place to re-stock and eat out, Saint Aulaye boasts an riverside beach where one can enjoy a swim, each at the beach cafe & even hire a canoe ! The high street is home to a quality bakery, butchers, fishing & hunting suppliers and a small supermarket, a tabac and a couple of good restaurants. L'Etang De Jemaye is approximately 12 Km away. With it's Sandy beaches, it is ideal for sunbathing, swimming and fishing. Other various activities include watersports, tennis and crazy golf. A variety of Restaurants and cafes are located around the lake. This part of the Dordogne is littered with stunning villages, cycle trails and footpaths, the attractions far too varied and numerous to cover here. No public transport. This is a drive to venue only. The nearest airport with car hire is Bergerac. The property covers an area of around forty acres of which thirty six is forested, the rest being lake and a small area cleared for the cabin and picnic area. The woodland is mainly maritime pine with some deciduous, including oak and chestnut which is being increased over time. It is home to a variety of wildlife many of which you will hear or possibly see during your stay. Our observations so far include wild boar, various species of deer, lizards and a range of bird life, including many birds of prey. The lake is at the heart of the property , extending to three and a half acres and surrounded on all sides by mature woodland. Like most lakes in the area it is artificial and stream fed, with a barrage or dam at either end. In the past it was a specialist carp water with fish up to 50lbs, although nothing of such size has been seen in recently ! However it does boast numerous carp in the mid to late twenties, black bass, rudd and good sized roach. The lake is fished rarely and the sport good. In addition to fishing the lake is an excellent venue for wildlife observation and photography. The lake attracts numerous birds, and the small pools at either end are frequented by wild boar, deer and other smaller mammals. As our guest your party will have exclusive use of the lake during your stay. Fishing , bathing , nature watching or just enjoying the incredible tranquillity of this wonderful place , the choice will be yours ! As far fishing goes - we do insist that you use barb-less hooks, and don't allow keep nets, however we allow our guests to catch & keep any carp under 2 lbs in weight for the BBQ ! The living area is nestled in a clearing between the private driveway and the banks of the lake. In addition to the cabin and BBQ terrace, we have a separate lavatory room and camping area. The camping area has a pre-pitched traditional style bell tent , which comfortably sleeps four adults. This can be furnished either with air beds and bedding or camp cots and sleeping bags whichever you prefer. guests are also welcome to pitch additional tentage free of charge. Facilities are basic but comfortable and in keeping with the off-grid low impact ethos of the venue. Electricity for the lighting and water system is provided via rooftop and remote solar panels ; hot water & cooking facilities are fueled by propane, although we find we do most of our cooking on the BBQ ! The Cabin The cabin can accommodate up to four guests and comprises: Double bedroom with solar strip lighting. All bedding is included. Living room with small dining table, banquet seating which can be converted for use as two single beds; solar strip lighting. Sleeping bags are recommended for the banquet beds. Galley kitchen with double propane burner; propane fridge, solar strip lighting and hot & cold water. The kitchen is equipped with basic cooking utensils and pans; carbon monoxide & smoke alarms; first extinguishers; first aid kit and fire blanket. Shower room with electric solar powered shower ; sink and propane powered hot and cold water External solar powered lighting Lavatory Building Natures Head low maintenance composting toilet system Internal and external solar powered lighting Outside Living Area BBQ shed Patio Camping Area Cleared flat area sufficient to pitch a tent or gazebo. A large tent with double inflatable mattress and bedding can be pitched free of charge prior to arrival should guests require. Cleared bank side picnic area Recycling & composting bin Cleared bank side picnic area Recycling & composting bin Potable Water The cabins water system is based on that of a large touring caravan. Clean water enters the system at one point and is then distributed via an electric pump to the cabins sinks and shower. The water supply is via rainwater harvesting. The water is collected on the roof of the cabin, then passing through a Doulton silver impregnated ceramic filter into a food grade plastic storage tank. From here it is pumped directly to the shower and hot water taps, the cold kitchen tap supply pases through an additional carbon filter before reaching the sink . This allows us to supply both sinks and shower with drinking quality water in a sustainable manner
