Little Oak - romantic & spacious, Forest of Dean
This is our newly built light and airy self contained guesthouse set in the beautiful Forest of Dean. It's the perfect location for exploring all that the forest has to offer. We are on the edge of the village of Bream and you can access the forest from the lane opposite, straight down a path and you're into the woods. It's a great spot for walking and there are lots of mountain bike trails that start from our door step. We live in the cottage next door and share the off road parking. The annex is wheel chair accessible and has a super king-size electric bed that can be split into 2 singles if needed. The sitting room, kitchen and bedroom are all open plan. We can provide a pressure washer for mountain bikes and have a lockable cellar for over night storage. The annex has many velux windows in the ceiling so natural daylight may wake you up in the mornings. There is under floor heating throughout. There is no WiFi but 4G does work, the reception isn't the best in certain areas of the flat. We like to think of it as a bit of a digital retreat. There is a television with all the usual digital channels and a huge collection of DVDs for rainy days or cosy evenings. The annex has a small private court yard with seating area, a gas barbecue and a little pond that is set high over toddler height. We can provide a travel cot and there is a fold out futon in the sitting room so potentially Little Oak could sleep more at an additional cost. Dogs are welcome at an extra cost of £10 per dog but please do not let them on the furniture. We also have a friendly dog and 2 very friendly cats, if you are bringing a dog please shoo the cats away, as they will come and try and say hello. We can provide parking for one vehicle off road on our drive (our driveway is big enough for 2 cars so just to be aware to leave room for us too!) You have your own courtyard garden. Our garden to our cottage next door is not accessible to guests, so if you are bring a dog please make sure they don't come into it. We live in the cottage next door and share a drive way. As the annex has no washing machine or tumble dryer I am happy to launder clothes at an extra cost. If you need to use a pressure washer for mountain bikes then just ask and we can get it set up for you. Bream has a coffee shop, 2 village shops and a pub all with in walking distance. We are a mile and a half from Whitemead Forest Park with a swimming pool, sauna, steam and jucuzzi, restaurant and bar which can be reached through the woods from Little Oak. A further 1/4 mile into the village of Parkend you'll find two of our favorite Forest pubs that serve good food and are dog friendly. Other well know attractions in our area: 2.6 miles to the amazing Puzzle Woods famous for being used in Star Wars and the TV series of Merlin and is said to have inspired Tolkien's Middle Earth. 2.5 miles to Perry Grove Model Railway, 3.6 miles to Clearwell Caves, 2.5 miles to Go Ape, 9 miles to The National Dive Centre and 5.7 miles to the beautiful Wye Valley and the river Wye. There are many places you can rent mountain bikes in the area and there are various canoeing companies that can take you down the Wye. And of course there are the acres of woodlands cared for by The Forestry Commission in which you are free to roam, build dens and enjoy fantastic walks. The number 23 bus links from Gloucester to Bream and can take you to Lydney where our closest train station is. This being said it is best to have your own transport to make the most of our area. We are about 20 minutes from Chepstow and Monmouth. You can access the woods from the lane opposite us and then straight into hours of endless forest, great walks and excellent mountain biking. We have heaps of unofficial mountain bike trails just a couple of minutes peddling from us! These are for people in the know. The courses are not in any book you will find and created by local enthusiasts know as the 'trail fairies' as they just seem to magically appear! We are a stones throw from the river Wye and there are plenty of places to hire canoes or go on guided canoe trips. Wild swimming around here is amazing but not for the faint hearted! The Wye has some strong currents but if you are a compitent swimmer there's nothing else quite like it!
