Quinta do Cobral

Our lovely farm is close to The Serra da Estrela Mountains, lots of beautiful river beaches and the historical cities of Coimbra and Viseu. It is a beautiful, cozy and private granite cottage situated in a quiet river valley surrounded by woodland, birds and wildlife and located close to the lively village of Lagares da Beira. Casa da Bezerra is good for couples, families (with kids) we do not charge more during holiday times, same great price all year, and pets (but please check first). We live in beautiful Central Portugal and it is our aim to impact on our lovely environment as little as possible. Our farm is totally off-grid, we provide all our own electricity from solar panels on the roof, we also use the sun to heat our hot water, the water comes from our own private bore hole. A wood pellet boiler and wood burning range cooker heats our space and provides us with additional hot water, underfloor heating and cooking. Our outdoor kitchen, which we mainly use in the summer when our range cooker is not lit in the house, is fired by wood and, because it has a proper chimney, is safe to use all year round, even in the summer when normal BBQ's are not permitted. The air here is wonderful, clear and clean. We are surrounded by beautiful views, fabulous countryside and woodlands. You can walk for miles without ever treading on a tarmac road. We can provide you with a range of walks from Casa da Bezerra (our little house) in our Activities folder as well as fab kids activity packs, walking to any of our local restaurants or bars is easy even at night guided by the stars and moon. Your first mornings FREE breakfast will be waiting for you in the kitchen, you can order each day for €5 per person thereafter if you wish, we can also provide you with meals from our outdoor oven including Pizzas if you wish, please book before 11am. Prices available on arrival. We have some lovely animals on our farm, feel free to visit them at any time but be aware they might be a bit timid with you at first. We do have electric fencing though so take care when walking alongside the animal enclosures. We also have a friendly Springer Spaniel called Blue and two friendly rescue dogs Ylva and Ted all our dogs love kids, we also have two lovely cats. Kiko and Mouse, our young cats, are especially friendly and absolutely love cuddles. Our vegetable garden is fully productive as is the poly tunnel. We also have our own olive trees and a vineyard. We are really happy for you to enjoy all these spaces and can give you lots of information about what we are growing if you ask. Our farm has the River Cobral as a boundary, if you want to have a dip in the river, please feel free to do so. The Splash Pool - the pool terrace is directly below the main terrace and is equipped with sun loungers. Please bring in the cushions we provide at night time. We are very happy for you to use the splash pool at anytime but make sure you take full responsibility for your children. Please note - indoor towels are not for pool use, please provide your own swimming towels. BBQ's (apart from the gas one provided) and open fires are not allowed. We can help you with any other queries so please feel free to ask if you need anything We are close to the historic cities of Viseu and Coimbra, both are around 50 minutes drive from here. The glorious mountains of the Serra da Estrella can be accessed easily from our Quinta and it takes about 40 minutes to reach the highest point in Portugal (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) m above sea level - called TORRE). In the winter the skiing and tobogganing are great and very reasonably priced. For immediate shopping there is always the lovely town of Oliveira do Hospital which is less than 10 minutes drive away. Here you can find all the normal supermarkets, fruit shops, a market, and many other shops. Our village Lagares da Beira also provides a great deal for your stay. There is a mini supermarket with all your day to day needs including lovely fresh bread, an excellent pharmacy, bars and two very good restaurants. Ask for more details. There is also a cash point machine in the village. When arriving please DO NOT use our post code in your sat nav, it will take you somewhere completely different. Public transport is available, bus services travel regularly through the village. it is also easy to access our Quinta from both Lisbon and Porto if you fly. We are pleased to help with travel plans and can advise on the best, most economical ways available. If you are staying with us do away with the stress while going green and travel by trail or bus, we can collect you from the station if you need us to. Our camino (driveway) is a public road but in places it is an unpaved, dirt track (most of it is now concrete). It is perfectly passable but you will need to drive slowly and carefully.
