There is no other house in Samos like this. You have the opportunity to stay on the ground floor of a neoclassical mansion, recently renovated, only a minutes walk from the center of Samos town. The 5m high ceilings and long windows give this property exceptional views and a refreshing breaze. The property itself has a large veranta, direclty over looking at the sunset/moonset, a modern bathroom with shower, a hallway, a large bedroom with a king size bed and an open living room with a kitchen. Unique neoclassical mansion The property is located on the ground floor of a 2 storey neoclassical mansion, constructed in 1906, fully renovated in 2006, with respect to the architecture of the landmark. It's an imposing mansion, with exposed stone, both outside & inside, high 5m long ceilings, with wooden floors and window frames. The design and materials of the building, in combination with the large & long windows, allow the property to remain always fresh, as the wind creates a refreshing breaze around the house. Central heating allows the house to be warm all year around for our winter visitors. The decoration and furniture, have a unique style of old and new materials and techniques influenced by the simplicity and beauty of the Aegean style, with handmade art creations by the owners, who happened to be artists themselves. Along side the entrance of the mansion, on the right, there is a veranda with chairs and a table to enjoy the idilic sunset views of the island. The main entrance is shadowed by Yasmin flowers, a big olive tree and flowers. Entering from your own private entrance leads you to a spacious hall with the old Port-Mando furniture. On your left hand side there is a modern bathroom with a shower. A large wooden partition divides this area from the rest of the mansion. On the right hand side of the hallway, there is the main part of the property you will be staying. It consists of a living room with a spacious double sofa that can turn into a bed, a long table and a small kitchenette for all your cooking needs. A large wooden folding door connects this space with the bright bedroom, allowing secludion when pricacy is needed, without effecting the esthetics or freshness, of the living room. Access to the mansion is through 3 marbel steps. The floor is laid with 100 years old tiles, giving the property its unique character and attention to details. Walking on, the main entrance is covered with Yasmin flowers and a big olive tree. The whole building is surrounded by a veranda, allowing you to enjoy the sunset or moonset views. There is a stylish little table and couple of chairs for you to sit. The mansion houses the owners. The ground floor is divided into two separate apartments. The owners live on the top floor, and will be there to welcome you and facilitate your stay. Additional amenities and services are provided upon request. The mansion is located in the center of Samos town, in a very quiet neighborhood. The small street in front of the property has limited parking space. A hundred meters to the south leads to the main marina/port of the town, making this property ideal for quick access to where everything happens. The marina is perfect for your evening strolls and going for morning or evening runs. You will also find there all the local bars and restaurants of Samos town. The mansion sits on a small hill, allowing great views over the rest of the city and the marina. Thirty meters away for the mansion entrance is the starting point of the shopping area of the town. Going left, there are various shops, the coastal road and the cycle lane. The commercial port of Samos is just over 2 km away. The main bus station of the island is around 700 meters away, both towards the south. The large city beach of Gagou is organized and located only 1 km away from the mansion, towards NW. Other beaches are located further away, towards the North, namely Kalami, Livadaki and Nisi beach. The archaeological museum which houses the tallest archaic Kouros of ancient Greece is 500m across the shopping area. On the top of the hills around Samos Town, you can find the old part of town, called 'Ano Vathi. This old village was constructed in such a way as to protect agains pirates. As a result, there are many beautiful alleys with wonderful views over the Samos town, the marina, and the sunset. For your night entertainment we would suggest the 3 bars located all together 400 meters from the house, towards NW following the coast line. The large verandas over the water, the relaxed music, the wonderful night views of Samos town and the surrounding area create a very relaxing and romantic atmosphere. BEACHES One of the most beautiful and unique islands of Greece, Samos distinguishes for the fabulous beaches and the lush greenery. Although Vathi is the capital town, tourism is spread in many beautiful seaside places around the coastline, mostly Kokkari, Pythagorion, Karlovassi and Heraion. Around Kokkari are many beaches, along the way is Kedros where you can chill with the cool windsurfers. Be aware the northern beaches are affected by the wind, so if you are looking for calm water try the south side of the island or the east. Tsamadou, Agios Konstantinos, Lemonakia are amazing beaches with exotic water, all are on the north side of the island. A few naturist beaches can be found after Avlakia beach (North side) A favourite place among the locals is the beach of Mourtia, after Vlamari. Around the corner to the South of Mourtia you have Megali Laka, which is easy to access by car (drive until you see the red markings on the side of the road towards the beach) and then hike on a clear path for 20 mins. After you swim in the calm and clear pebble beach of Mourtia or the sandy beach of Megali Laka it is worth visiting the monastery on the mountain on the North, Zoodohos Pigi and Agia Zoni in the valey of Vlamari. They are both very near and they have a unique collection displayed of historic Byzantioum art, both wood carvings and paintings. Try the water from the Platanos Trees. They are two in Vlamari and both taste amazing. There are two sandy beaches, both called Psili Amos. A bit confusing, we know but they are situated on different sides of the island. The small one is near Mykali beach, the big one, is in Marathocampos area, around 1:30 mins drive from Samos Town. We suggest drive from the north, spend a day in Potami beach and explore the river falls and the ancient church before you enter the lush forestry and running waters. If you are up for an early hike, go to Small Seitani (30 mins) or if you feel more active, to Large Seitani (1 hour). You can also ask for a local fisherman to drop you there, but they can be a bit expensive. Posidonio is also an excellent suggestion for everyone looking for a night swim, clear waters, meeting the locals and Turkish neighbours have fun together and enjoy some relaxed atmosphere. A beach to try some nice food and a bit of kayaking is Livadaki. It is more lively, try some of the salads while there. HISTORY & ARCHEOLOGY On the south side of the island there are the archaeological findings and museum of the famous Eupalinios path. This is one of most spectacular engineering feats of the Ancient Greece. The museum in Pythagoreon displays proofs of the strength of the island in ancient times, the Mitocracy and ties with strong ancient women as well as offerings to the most powerful goddess, Hera, wife of Zeus and protector of the island. In the area of Spiliani, as you enter, behind the closed bars you can see the ancient bath tab of Sibiles, ancient mediums. Very important and unique paleontological findings you will see at the museum of Mitilinious Vilage. WINE Samos is famous for the tasty wine that is produced. We would recommend Psiles Corfes, one of the local favorites. Try it chilled. SERVICES The buses are not too many, without frequent schedules, and cannot go in all areas. Taxis for daily use cost too much so for the autonomy of the traveler it is proposed to rent a car or bike. You can easily find parking at the street outside the house. For more information about food, wines and services we offer, please ask Marianna directly. The apartment accommodates 2 people. Two additional people can stay using the large sofa/bed provided, but an addional charge of €15 applies per extra person after the initial 2. The apartment is available for the whole year. Central heating and the exeptional quality of contraction and design, make the property ideal for all year long travelers. Prices are adjusted based on demand and seasons.
