Views of the bay (Closed til May 2022)
Our house lends itself to relaxation. A beautiful view of the beach, across the River Derwent, to Opossum Bay and Mt Wellington. The amazing views are seen from many aspects of your room. The room is located on the bottom level and has beautiful views of the river. This large room with ensuite is available for up to two people to stay. The room is pictured. The house is two-storey, and built on a hill which facilitates magnificent views of the Derwent River across to Opossum Bay and beyond. During the summer months, we watch the cruise ships sail up and down the river to and from Hobart, and the Sydney Hobart fleet coming up the river to end their race is great to watch. Kim and Andrew will be your hosts, and live in the house upstairs. Andrew is a police officer and Kim a culinary teacher at TasTAFE in Hobart. Access to the room is through the front door, and a sharp turn to the right. If you’re planning to arrive when we’re not at home, no problem – the key is available via key lock box at the front door. Simply let yourself in, and settle into the room. We do have a cat (a beautiful Norwegian forest - Lucy) in the house who generally doesn’t annoy anyone, she just lay’s around the house, and wants to be fed twice a day. The room itself is huge. It has a queen size bed with clean sheets and doona, a lounge, table and chairs, television, and a private bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity. There is a bar fridge (with some condiments) toaster, microwave, kettle, and tea/coffee making items available for no extra cost. The room itself is fully lockable, and our philosophy is that the room is yours during your stay – not ours to enter. As we are living in COVID -19 times, no guests are allowed upstairs without our approval. We have been hosting on AirBnB for 7 years, and have ‘Superhost’ status with this property, and have had other properties that we have had guests stay. Thank you for all considerations. Kim and Andrew Access is to the room is through the front door, via a key located in a lock box. We work full- time, respect your privacy, possibly meet and greet if we are available. We live upstairs , so please don't hesitate to contact us if you need advice. There is a shopping centre within 10 minutes walk (or 2 minute drive) away. The flagship of the shopping centre is the Hill Street Grocer (by the way - it's not in Hill Street, just named that, but that’s another story). The chain of Hill Street grocers have a reputation in the south of Tasmania for supplying great customer service, and good clean (including organic) locally sourced Tasmanian food, with a fantastic vegetable section, cheeses and deli. It's our local shop, and we love it. We recommend you visit 'The Bayview Market (the shopping centre) to obtain your supplies when visiting, only 2 minute drive. There are other shops in the group, which include a Banjos Bakery, a News-agency, Japanese sushi, dentist, doctors surgery, a chemist a 'Celebrations' Bottle shop, hairdressers and Chinese restaurant. Just up the road there is a Cole's express service station offering fuel and groceries til very late. Within a minutes walk from our house, you will find the beautiful Blackmans Bay Beach, which has swings, play equipment and a skate park for the kids, play area, and has a coin operated BBQ and public toilets. Blackmans Bay beach is beautiful to swim in (sometimes the cold is a little too invigorating in the winter) but is very picturesque, and enjoyable for those who do like taking a dip. In the winter months a great swell rolls in and often see surfers taking a ride. In the summer, the water is crystal clear and refreshing. In peak times the beach offers opportunities for surfing and body boarding, and generally is great for snorkelling, scuba, kayaking and other water pursuits. Across the road from the beach, (a few minutes walk from the house) is the Beach Restaurant, Jack Loves Red Restaurant, Bombay on the Beach Indian Restaurant, and a take away shop which sells fish n chips, burgers and ice cream. We quite often eat at these restaurants, and can recommend all of them. Their public reviews are available on Trip Advisor. The neighbourhood has a relaxed feel about it, so if your visiting for holidays, touring, or on business, we're sure that the atmosphere provided by the area will prove peaceful. The easiest way to get around is by car - plenty of on street parking, directly outside the room/house. Our house is just 15 mins drive from Hobart travelling south on the Southern Outlet. The house is 1 minute walk from the bus stop to Hobart, if using this service, please download the metro app, which will give you a quick access to times and route. The closest bus stop is situated on Wells parade. Buses are frequent and can take anywhere from 20-25 mins to 40-45mins to the CBD. The airport is 30 mins from the house and taxis and Uber are available from the terminal. This is considerably longer if going by bus. Taking the shuttle from the airport to the CBD and than the bus to BBay The main shopping centre is a 5 min drive at Kingston, which provides numerous eating outlets - KFC, McDonald's, Chinese, Japanese, Subway etc. Coles, Woolworths, bottle shops, medical centres, chemists and many retail stores.
