Dreams of places near and far: --- “Nothing makes me happier than having family and friends around, and being able to share beautiful food, fabulous local WA wine and conversations overlooking refreshing sea views - it really is a discreet little retreat here" says Jess, who followed a love of entertaining, indoor/outdoor living and travels to guide the design of this much-loved family beach home. Relax on the shaded balcony with: * A sturdy 8-person matching table and two benches * Two traditional wood-framed reclining beach loungers * Kamado Joe Ceramic BBQ and traditional gas BBQ * Views of Lake Vancouver, Frenchman's Bay and historic Albany town Guest tip: grill whole chicken, ham, duck, ribs and more on the Kamado Joe using lump charcoal made from pieces of real wood (instead of charcoal briquettes) to impart a wonderful wood-fire flavour to our grilled food. Yum! There will be some charcoal in black bin next to the BBQ. And finally, play chess with the giant set and stone tiled chessboard. There is a washing line provided to air dry laundry and beach gear. Beaches ----------- Goode Beach is a 100m pathway/boardwalk stroll away and occupies the western shore of 3.5 km wide Frenchman Bay. This unpatrolled beach faces due east. And what awaits you is a lengthy curving stretch of peaceful uncrowded white-sand beach for strolling, jogging, yoga, sunbathing and clear sheltered waters to paddle, bodyboard, swim, snorkel and kayak. Frenchman Bay Beach is a nearby 5-10min drive offering a sheltered bay popular with those visiting with younger children. Exploring further afield, visit Middleton Beach and Emu Point, both ideal for relaxing family outings offering tree shade for picnics, cafe amenities and calm beach waters for easy swimming and sand play. Albany town ---------------- Albany is part of what is coined "Rainbow Coast": Albany, Denmark & Walpole on the South Coast of Western Australia. Albany is an historic town, laying claim to several "firsts": being the spot where the first European settlers set foot and permanently settled in Western Australia - predating Perth and Fremantle; and from where the first convoy of ANZACs departed for the battlefields of the First World War. Albany town centre is about a 15-20 minute drive away. Stroll along its main York Street to explore its diverse selection of fashion and homewares boutiques, restaurants, cafes and pubs. Beyond Albany town -------------------------- Many attractions await... enjoy Whale Watching (prime season is between July and September), visit Whale World (Australia's last mainland whaling station, closed in 1978) and being on the border to Tondirup National Park, see for yourself The Natural Rock Bridge and The Gap (both once connected to the Antarctic!), Blowholes, Salmon Holes and eco-friendly wind turbines at Albany Wind Farm - all are well signposted and easy nearby drives. Be as active as you wish with a variety of tranquil bush, forest walks and coastal paths to take in the rugged sights, from easy-going strolls to more active half-day treks. Eat well, drink finely ------------------------- A favourite of ours, The Albany Farmer's Market opens every Saturday (8am-12 noon, get there early!) showcasing fresh, local seasonal fruits, veggies, and produce from real local farmers. Albany is one of five sub-regions of the Great Southern wine region, the largest wine region in Australia. Drive a bit further to neighbouring towns (e.g. Denmark) to stop by cellar doors for a wine tasting at internationally recognised local wineries. We recommend checking out the official Albany Australia Tourist Guide Association website for the latest updates on year-round attractions, activities and festivities. Off-street car parking is available next to the home entrance and along its private driveway. Albany Town Centre is about a 20-minute drive. 1. WILD NATURE SURROUNDS - BE SMART, BE SAFE Right on our doorstep is Lake Vancouver, a small fresh water lake and wetland, Torndirrup National Park and Frenchman Bay. Beautiful landscape views and unpatrolled Goode Beach waters means there is always the possibility of crossing paths with native wild Australia creatures of all sizes and potential danger to humans - snakes (e.g. brown snakes), amphibians (e.g. frogs), lizards, birds, insects (e.g. spiders), stingrays etc. For both adults and children alike, please use everyday good common sense when walking/playing around the immediate house surrounds, streets, beach access footpaths and surrounding bush. Be mindful of where you step and should you spot any such wildlife on land or offshore, keep a safe distance and under no circumstances approach or make contact. 2. ESSENTIAL HOUSEKEEPING RULES We appreciate in advance that guests note the 'Essential Housekeeping' rules for everyone's enjoyment. We share these in our pre-arrival message. If there are any additional things to note, just ask and we’ll let you know.
