Welcome to The Coop Country House. The perfect place to roost for the night! Enjoy a taste of Hunter Valley history in complete comfort. Wake up in one of three comfortable bedrooms in this freshly renovated country house. 15 minutes to historical Wollombi and 20 minutes from Pokolbin. The Guest Suite has 3 King bedrooms and 1 single bed with trundle in the sunroom/porch. Tucked away on a quiet country road, this Millfield gem gives guests the privacy of their own locked bedrooms, a lounge, luxury bathroom and sunroom. The suite is attached but separated from the larger house by an adjoining door. The owner and host Paulene, lives in the rear section of the house and is available for any questions on the area and provides a simple continental breakfast every morning. As the name suggests the original country house was the home to a large chicken farm in years gone by. Now tastefully renovated, on the remaining quarter acre, visitors can enjoy the ambience of the original house while sitting out on the large verandah. The sunroom/porch is a great place to read a good book or play games with friends. The comfortable lounge has a fridge, Nespresso coffee machine and TV with Netflix This is truly an escape not to be missed. The front door of the house gives guests direct access to the Suite, which also has French doors leading from the Lounge onto a side deck and garden. The adjoining door from the Guest Suite to the main house will be kept closed when guests are visiting. The door is unlocked so guests can utilise facilities at the rear of the house, an additional guest toilet, laundry and kitchen, as required. Millfield is a quiet village 15 minutes from Wollombi, 15 minutes from Cessnock and 25min from Pokolbin via MacDonalds Rd. There are 2 local hotels close by in Paxton and Ellalong. Both serve substantial Pub meals. Ellalong Hotel also has the closest ATM however, if you are heading into Cessnock or Pokolbin the Bellbird Metro Gas Station on Wollombi Rd also has an ATM. Rover Coaches provide transport from opp The Millfield General Store to all concerts in Pokolbin. If you check out their Web Site, you will see costs and departure details for any dates you are attending. The coach originates in Laguna, via Wollombi. Millfield, Greta Main then the venue. Personal Favourite Vineyards: Turn left from Eleventh Ave onto Wollombi Rd then right into Mt View Rd, just past the Millfield General Store. Driving over Mt View Rd (partially dirt road) from Millfield you pass several of my favourite vineyards. The following 4 are all on Mt View Rd before it becomes Oakey Creek Rd. Millbrook Estate (1.9km) quaint boutique Winery and Brandy Distillery. Great wines and excellent Brandy. Tallavera Grove (5.5km) Beautiful setting and delicious wines…shades of Tuscany. Also home to Bistro Molines. Petersons Wines (7.2 km) Great ambience and wonderful wines. Briar Ridge Vineyard (8.3km) Excellent selection of wines and brilliant cellar door staff. On request they will make up a great cheese board. MacDonalds Road Usher Tinkler Winery (21 km) Great Anti pasta patters but due to heavy demand they do require a booking. De Beyers Rd Audrey Wilkinson (24 km) Picturesque vineyard will long history in the Hunter. Spectacular view over the valley, excellent wines and a cheese board is available. Hermitage Rd Piggs Peake Winery (34km) Entertaining and knowledgeable cellar door staff. Great wines which can be taken into the adjoining Yellow Billy Restaurant. Wollomi Rd Krinklewood Vineyard (41 km) A bit of a drive but well worth the effort. Beautiful setting and wonderful wines. You can either go via Wollombi or turn left at Broke. Pothana Lane. Belford David Hook Cellar Door at Pothana Winery. Great variety of wines, many not common in the Hunter. Excellent experience with David sharing his knowledge of the Winery and its produce. Cafe's Myrtle Cafe Wollombi Nanna Kerr's Kitchen Macdonalds Rd Enzo's Cafe, Pepper Creek Village,Broke Rd Polinas Cafe, Vincent St, Cessnock Divine Cafe and Garden Centre, Wine Country Road Great Food Experiences Yellow Billy Restaurant (34 km) Adjoining Piggs Peake Winery this is truly an experience not to be missed. The barbeque meats and vegetables, cooked over an open fire are amazing, probably the best lamb I have ever eaten. Bistro Molines on Mt View Rd (5 km) serves exquisite food and an unforgettable setting. More to be added At the rear of the house is a large deck down to the back yard and garden, which guests are welcome to use at Paulene's discretion. The dining table or kitchen servery are available for breakfast, should they be required. The garden is a "work in progress" at the current time. A Fire Pit, at the side of the house, can be used if weather permits (no fire bans) and at Paulene's discretion. A Continental breakfast is available with homemade Muesli, yoghurt and berries, croissants, sourdough bread, jams, ham and cheese.
