NEW LISTING - a gem in Verdun, Adelaide Hills.
"Peartreewick" is a beautifully renovated cottage in the heart of the Adelaide Hills. The house is the perfect combination of old meets new, with the original cottage frontage complimented by a modern open plan kitchen/living extension, opening on to a generous deck. Close to fabulous wineries & mouthwatering food spots, like the Stanley Bridge Tavern (an easy walk!), Maximilians, The Lane, Bird in Hand & Barristers Block to name a few, you'll be well placed to take in the best of the region. Peartreewick is set on 6 acres in Verdun. The original cottage has a traditional, rustic feel & together with the spacious extension, each room has been individually styled with a hip modern vibe. Finished with polished concrete floors, timeless floorboards & white washed walls, the cottage offers modern amenities & plenty of space. The kitchen/dining area opens onto an outdoor deck framed by 100 year old pear trees. There is no better place to relax & enjoy the tranquil setting with birds & local wildlife, as well a curious cow or two! The kitchen is equipped with everything you will need for a comfortable stay including a dishwasher, large oven & gas cooktop, fridge, nespresso coffee machine (pods provided) & plenty of wine glasses to enjoy that glass of local wine by the open fire. You can also venture into the paddock, where a fire-pit awaits. Just perfect for toasting marshmallows & watching the sun go down. With two living areas, four bedrooms, two bathrooms (main & ensuite), there is plenty of room for guests to spread out and enjoy their stay. The second living area provides a place to snuggle in & enjoy a good book or perhaps a potential children's retreat with an additional TV, Wii, tonnes of seating & games for hours of entertainment! The laundry room has a washer and dryer (washing powder provided), iron and ironing board, as well as a separate loo. The house is cosy in winter with underfloor heating in the kitchen/living area & an open fire (wood & firelighters provided). Extra blankets and heaters in the bedrooms will help to keep you cosy for your winter stay. In summer the cottage stays cool, especially with bedroom blinds drawn, and a reverse cycle air conditioner in the kitchen/living area will take the heat off the hottest of days. For those travelling with babies there is room for your portacot to be set up in one of the bedrooms. Please note that even though a screen protects the open fire, you do need to take care if you have little ones. Other things to note - The cottage frontage retains its original character. We love the characteristic creaks & squeaks that come with sash windows, old doors & wooden floors. We hope that you enjoy the character of Peartreewick as much as we do. - The fire pit is available for use, weather permitting, outside of fire danger season. The fire danger season in the Adelaide Hills generally begins each year on 1 December & lasts until 30 April, however these dates are subject to change according to weather conditions. Up to date info can be found on the Adelaide Hills Council & CFS website. - There are often cows kept in the neighbouring paddocks. Guests are welcome to talk to them through the fence & when in season, please feel free to throw them a green pear or two! - The Balhannah train junction is about 4km from Verdun, with a railway bridge about a 1km walk up the road. It's a great place for train-spotting & our children find it fascinating! - The Adelaide Hills are often 3-5 degrees cooler than Adelaide, which is lovely in the heat of summer and a great chance to snuggle by the fire in winter! Please be sure to bring a warm jacket if you are staying in winter. - Located in a valley, noise does tend to travel. Due to this & out of respect for our neighbours, we have a strict “no parties” policy. I can be contacted via mobile & happy for my guests to call as needed if there are any concerns/issues that I can help with. For lunch or dinner & a great selection of takeaway wines, we recommend visiting the Stanley Bridge Tavern, a short walk from Peartreewick in the township of Verdun. For other amenities, a short drive to Balhannah will provide you with everything you need including supermarket I bakery I chemist I butcher I cafes I pilates I gymnasium (large anytime fitness) I hardware I post office I playground I gift shops. Peartreewick is a 25 minute drive down the south-eastern freeway to the Adelaide CBD. Easy undercover parking for two vehicles onsite. Bus accessible Route 830F - Lobethal to City via Woodside, Oakbank, Balhannah, Verdun Junction & Crafers. The service operates Monday-Friday & the bus stop is an easy walk (approximately 300m) to the Onkaparinga Valley Road from the house.
