Sympathetically Restored Stone Built Cottage in the Gironde Recently renovated, this delightful gite retains its unique character and charm combined with the necessities of modern living. It is located at the rear of the owners house. The grounds and garden extend to a hectare. Located in its own garden, this stone built cottage has been sympathetically restored by the owners to a high degree. Accommodation comprises: Double bedroom with shower room and wc en-suite. Twin bedroom Second large shower room with wc Open plan living room including kitchen, dining space and sitting area. Outside Barbecue terrace with table and chairs. All bed linen and towels will be provided. There should be nothing you need to bring. Property not suitable for children under the age of 8 The gite is joined onto the main house which is occupied by ourselves all year round as such we'll be generally available most of the time. The gite is located on the edge of St Macaire where you will find a pharmacy, butcher and 2 general shops. St Macaire which is a relaxed mediaeval town of some 2000 people and dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries. It has a range of shops, restaurants and bars. During fairly recent years, many of the ancient building and alleyways have been sympathetically restored. Langon, which is the centre of the Graves wine industry, is across the river Garonne on the south bank. Here you will find a large range of shops and supermarkets. The coast is 95 kms away and takes about 90 minutes to drive there. Places of Interest Loupiac - produces sweet white wine and also has an interesting roman bath recently excavated. Sauternes - is close by on the south side of the river Garonne and where the best sweet and probably the most expensive wine (in the world) is produced. Hostens - 40 kms south west, is a vast leisure complex around a series of lakes. There is swimming, canoeing in the lake and cycle / walking tracks around it. Food and drinks are available. Bazas – located 14 kms south, an interesting town to visit. It has a handsome square in the centre with a beautiful cathedral at the top end. Plenty of restaurants and bars. Good Saturday market in the square. Bazas meat is well known for fine taste. Cadillac – located 12 kms west, gave its name to the cadillac car. Good restaurants and bars. An excellent Saturday market in the square. Castet-et-Castillon – located 10 kms east is the start of the 19th century canal du midi which stretches all the way to the Mediterranean at Seté. Apart from two good restaurants, one can walk or cycle along the canal. Cycle hire is available in St Macaire and in Castet-et-Castillon. At Arcachon, about 90 minutes away, there are good beaches, excellent shopping and a full range of water sports as well as the Dune de Pilat. Bordeaux is only 35 minutes by car or 20 by train from Langon station. It is a beautiful city full of interesting shops, museums, art galleries and has a wonderful Opera House.
