The flower beds, the herbs garden, and the holistic garden complete an atmosphere in which to relax and live according to the rhythms of nature, breathing in the scents of the earth, enjoying its sounds, colors and flavours, from sunrise to night sky. Once you’ll get there, NATURE will be the “main theme” of your relaxing stay. Surrounded by a beautiful forest, the house is in the perfect location both for an easy stroll or a more adventurous visit of Italy’s most famous protected area, and one of the most famous in Europe: The National Park of Abruzzo Lazio and Molise. Filignano is one of the rural villages of the park, scattered in 12 hamlets along the valley, winding through the terraces of an ancient rural countryside, penetrating in an increasingly wild landscape, to open up to the solemn and dazzling scenery of the Mainarde Mountains (2142 meters). The heart of the Apennines, the territory has benefited from a more than ninety-year ban on hunting and indiscriminate logging. The result is an environment as nature intended. Breathtaking encounter with the bear or the wolf can really happen in ‘ The National Park of Abruzzo Lazio and Molise’. The park covers an area of nearly fifty thousand acres adjacent to one hundred thousand acres of controlled hunting land. Untouched forests, grasslands, rocky outcrops, lakes, streams and waterfalls all join forces to make this region truly enchanting. From the comfort of the house you can escape into nature as ‘Mother Nature’ intended! Think of a vacation as the chance to experience a place as the locals do, historical memories and breath taking landscapes so far from the clamor of modern life are on your door step. The region is connected by a maze of paths going through silent woods, criss-crossed by dry stone walls and the remains of medieval fortifications. Admire the local shrines built by the devoted locals past and present using neapolitan maiolicas. An enduring feature of the landscape are the dry stone walls forming terraces on the slopes to allow farming. These have been built by the peasants since the Middle Ages using local stones extracted from the soil while working the land. Today they still have an important role for the hydrogeological stability of the territory. Scattered in the woods around Filignano are dozens of ancient shelters named Tholos. These are stone huts built with dry walls, of conic shape culminating in beautiful vaults roofs. The building technique is extremely old. The traditional cuisine was a simple one where, besides pasta – obviously homemade- the main other dishes were polenta (boiled cornmeal), pulses and vegetables. Step out of the house and you can enjoy delicious local dishes at Caffè del Borgo and La Tiana. Finally a little advice…don’t leave Filignano without having tasted the excellent beers made with local hops by the young brewery K2. Enjoy your outdoor walks with the most qualified and expert tour operator in Molise: Kolidur Travel Club , or easily rent your car in Filignano by contacting Mr. Mauro Verrecchia.
