Spread over three floors, this spacious house has been tastefully restored and is full of character and charm with original features. It has a fully equipped country kitchen and a large sitting-room fitted with a wood burning stove for the winter. The house dates back to at least the 1850s and has been tastefully restored, retaining original features wherever possible but creating a modern living space. The property is centrally heated but in addition has a large wood burning stove, ideal for cosy winter evenings. There is a small walled BBQ area to the rear of the house and a large grassed area, with Patio to the front. There is a Patio set for both the front and back of the house. Badminton, table-tennis and other outside games are available. There is also a games barn with darts, table football and pool table available. A swimming pool is available for use during the summer months (heated by the sun only), sharing with the owners. The house can accommodate 6 people in 3 bedrooms. An additional two guests can be accommodated on a sofa bed on the first floor mezzanine. High chair, stairgate and cot can be provided if required. The house has WiFi, Freeview TV (English) Washing machine, dish washer, two bathrooms, both have showers, one with a bath. A car is required as it is a small hamlet 2km from the local village of Chateauponsac which has all amenities. Parking is available on site. We live next door and will be happy to provide any help as required as well as advice on local restaurants or places to visit. The Gite is in a small rural hamlet which is a short 5 minutes car journey from the Roman village of Chateaupopnsac that has all modern conveniences including Boulangerie, supermarket, bars and restaurants and even a museum. The local area is great for walking, fishing, cycling etc. The River Gartemps, a beautiful unspoilt river valley, is a 10 min walk through the woods. There are also two leisure lakes within a twenty minute drive, one of which, during the summer, provides all water sports including sailing, canoeing, paddle boats and water-skiing. A Go Ape activity is also available by St Pardoux lake which includes zip lines across the water. The area is one of great historic interest spanning many centuries. There are a variety of places to visit in the footsteps of Richard the Lionheart ranging from Coussac Bonneval and the Chateau de Bonneval to Arnac-Pompadour, which boasts a fine chateau. We are also close to the Blond Mountains, which have marvellous walks, and the ancient village of Montmartre, where an art or antique show is often in progress. The nearest large city - 35 minutes drive - is Limoges, 'The Red City', famed for its porcelain and enamel work. It is a wonderful mixture of the old and the new. The memorial site of the infamous WWII massacre is at Oradour -sur-Glane. Poitiers is a one-hour and a half's journey away - home of Eleanor of Aquitaine, site of many beautiful Romanesque churches, and, by way of complete contrast, there is Futuroscope. From UK By Air: Using Ryan, Flybe and BA in the summer from several cities in the UK (these tend to change each year!) to Limoges Bellegarde Airport (45 mins by hire car to the house) By Rail: Eurostar from London St Pancras to Lille or via Paris then Limoges or La Souterraine. Via ferries to any channel port. Distance by car from Calais is 6 hours (not including stops or getting lost round Paris!). The house was constructed over three floors. Consequently, you may encounter features that reflect its particular character but deserve due care and attention, particularly for the young, elderly, less mobile or visually impaired. There are, for example, low beams and some low doorways.
