Opening from April 12, 2021 A 5 minute drive (or wonderful 25 min walk) from the popular village of Cartmel. 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom. Well equipped kitchen, open plan living space with rural views. 2 country pubs on the doorstep, plus a convenience store and artisan bakery/pizzeria. Next door to Holker Hall. Lake Windermere 8 miles away. Morecambe Bay 5 mins away. Perfect Lake District get away. This cottage is a very special, romantic property at any time of year. In the summer the gardens are full of flowers, butterflies, and the fields opposite graze cows and sheep. In winter you can get the wood burning stove blazing away and snuggle around the fire, or take long frosty walks and enjoy the local pubs most of which have big fires blazing in the winter, and serve great food and fine wine/ales. There are so many walks local to the cottage, but also a short drive up into the Lake District National Park you have all the mountains at your disposal. Cark is a quiet residential village so even during Cartmel Race weekends, you will not be bothered by tourists, crowds and traffic. You can escape the busy areas and enjoy peace and quiet, but you are very close to Cartmel and Grange over Sands, and 25 minutes from the charming market towns of Kendal and Ulverston should you want something more lively. The cottage comfortably sleeps a couple, or a couple with 1 or 2 children. There is a king size bed in one room, a single bed in a second room, and bunk beds in a third. All these bedrooms share a small bathroom. The sleeping area is on the ground floor, and the open plan living area on the 1st floor. Simon Rogan, our esteemed and celebrated local chef (L'Enclume, Rogans), has started a new take away initiative, whereby a meal can be ordered to await you on arrival to the cottage, or meals can be ordered for home delivery during your stay - (Email hidden by Airbnb) Access to the entire 3 bedroom property, a large west facing balcony, ample off road parking, and enclosed lawned gardens of quite a large size. I am available on the phone for any problems you might have, or if anything else is required I will do my best to help. I live 3 miles away from the cottage so can be on hand quickly, and know the area very well for any information or advice you might need. Cark is a quiet small village with a convenience store, an artisan bakery (open mon-fri am), a garden centre with 2 cafes, a hairdressers, and 2 pubs which serve food. There is a fish and chips shop in Flookburgh, the adjoining village. There is also a huge childrens indoor and outdoor play centre and petting farm (Duckys Park Farm) in Flookburgh. Cartmel village (which has a very informative website) is 3 miles from the cottage, a wonderful walk, or a short drive. Cartmel is a foodie village with an amazing cheese shop, artisan bakers and deli, fine wines and beers shop and the sticky toffee pudding shop. There are 4 excellent eating pubs, and L'Enclume or Rogans - Simon Rogan's 2 excellent restaurants. 3 times a year Cartmel Racecourse hosts race meetings which are very popular lively events. Next door to the cottage is Holker Hall estate, which offers a restaurant, cafe, food hall, gift and flower shop, playground and stunning gardens to walk around. Once a month they have a Farmer's market, and once a year the celebrated Holker Garden Festival. They also hold a fireworks display on bonfire saturday, and run children's craft workshops during school holidays. Lots more info locally on Go Lakes. The cottage is a short walk from 'Cark and Cartmel' station on the Furness Line. This line connects with Virgin trains London Euston - Glasgow line. One change at Lancaster (or sometimes Preston) gets you to Cark from London, the journey time is 3.15-3.40 hours depending on times. See Trainline for times and prices. Locally there is a very reliable bus that connects Cark to Grange-Over-Sands, Cartmel, Kendal, Ulverston and Barrow. The bus time-tables are in the cottage. The local Furness train line also quickly connects you to Ulverston, Barrow, Grange-over-Sands, Arnside and Silverdale. Go Lakes has lots more local info. Nearest Airport - Manchester, or Liverpool. Nearest city - Manchester Nearest big towns - Kendal and Ulverston Nearest small town - Grange-over-Sands I also have a small luxury walkers barn, sleeps 2, near Cartmel, and a bespoke campsite, also near Cartmel. See Jammy Patch online for more info.
