House on the beach - Finikounda

The house is laying directly in the old little Fisher-Harbour of Finikounda, located only 12 meters away from the water. All important infrastructure can be found in less than 250 m.. Bakery, Coffee-Shops, Drug-Store, Supermarket etc.. DEAR GUEST We wish you a very warm welcome here in Finikounda, in our „Spiti sto Limani“ – (house in the harbor) – a former oil mill and later a fisher house. We bought the house in October 2015 and upgraded it to our personal needs. We ask you kindly, to take care about the house and all the available furnishings. The house consists of on the ground floor living area, a breakfast- & dinner place with kitchen, one sleeping room (better to close the window by night and use the air-condition), and a toilet. A new built shower you will find on the left side of the terrace. On the first floor, there is a sleeping room (seaside), and a bathroom with toilet and shower. The little room between is closed. If you come from KORONI, you must go LEFT after the second circle. Follow the signs: Center, Restaurant ELENA. If you come from Pylos/Methoni: go right at the first circle and follow the signs: Elena, HARBOUR, Center. It is a „one way village“, so you will end in the middle of the village (main-street). Now go RIGHT and you will see on the right side a Gyros-Grill, named ARIS (His tables are in front of our house). After 50 meters (after Restaurant DIONYSOS) you should go LEFT, you see the harbor boats on the right hand and go immediately LEFT again (Pedestrian walk way). You will pass by Restaurant DIONYSOS (seaside) and Restaurant. 5FFFFF. After the Restaurant 5FFFFF you will see a little small square. Then you reached our „Spiti sto Limani“. You can park your car in front of the house. If a foreign car is parking there (happens sometimes, when nobody is in the house), talk to LINA, she will handle it. You can also park your car directly at the harbor, this is especially recommended when the pedestrian walk is crowdy, especially in the evening between 6pm and 11pm. All necessary Shops for daily needs like, small supermarket, pharmacy, boutiques, ice cream parlor, coffee & candy shop, Doctor… you will find directly in a distance about 150 meters around the house. A bigger supermarket is close to the church of Finikounda. The biggest supermarket is between Finikounda and Methoni (around 2 km away) on the main street FINIKOUNDA-METHONI. There is also a fuel-station on the other side of the street. The next Health Center is in PYLOS (around 20 km). Just to know: They don’t have an X-Ray Station. There is a bigger hospital in KALAMATA (in a distance of around 55 km).   SOME ADVICE CONCERNING THE HOUSE TOILETS: Be careful with the toilet paper. We put some bins in the toilets. The paper has to be put in here. Never Throw it directly into the toilet!!!! The Greece canalization is very sensible AIRCONDITION: During the day, we tip the window in first floor bathroom, open the bathroom door and fix it. Also we open the bedroom window – or tip it – to get a little airstream. For evening and sleeping time we recommend to use the air-condition keeping the doors and windows closed!!! 22 degrees Celsius should be the right temperature for a pleasant indoor climate. You also can choose low, medium and high. In the living room and in the two bedrooms there is an air-condition. The remote controls are a little hidden: In the bedroom ground floor: left next to the window, in the living room ground floor: left of the door to the bedroom, in the first-floor bedroom you will find the remote control behind the entrance door. You also can use the two mobile fans. SAFETY: On the first floor, behind the bathroom door, there is a little safe for your passports, money or personal belongings. One key for the safe is on your keys. Lina will explain it. Since even in Finikounda there were some troubles with thieves lately, PLEASE always close the house. Take care of your personal things and don’t leave expensive things, like mobile phones or tablets unattended on the terrace. TELEVISION: You have three TVs: in the living room and in the two bedrooms with international channels. KITCHEN AREA: Coffee machine: If you want, you can use the Saeco coffee machine. It is easy in handling. Please note some things: After switching on the machine, it is cleaning itself therefor ideally you put an empty cup under the outlet, otherwise the water runs into the drip tray, which should not be a problem, but you have to empty the drip tray regularly to avoid a run over!! Please watch the indications on the machine: refill water, refill coffee, empty the coffee grounds container. Description you find in the second drawer of the commode in the living room. If you have problems, ask LINA for further information. Alternatively, you can use the Italian coffeemaker. Dishwasher: You can also use the dishwasher, if you need some information how to use it, you find operating instructions in the second drawer of the commode in the living room. Kitchen window: The window behind the coffee machine is broken! PLEASE DO NOT OPEN IT!!!!!! Electric cooker: Please NEVER use the hotplate at the same time as the oven!!! GARBAGE: In the kitchen area, you will find a bigger bin for garbage. Smaller ones are in the bathrooms. Please bring your garbage to the big garbage cans at the end of the harbor (behind the fisher boats, you will see them). It is not necessary to split the garbage. NO SMOKING: It is NOT ALLOWED to smoke in the house. PETS: Pets are not allowed. WILD CATS: There are a lot of free cats. If you want give them some food, please don’t do that on the terrace, put it at the end of our property on the side (close to the pedestrian zone). There is one cat, which always comes, when there is somebody in the house. “Barbarossa”, so called because of the red fur, is always thankful for some food, BUT please outside the terrace!!!!! PLANTS: Our plants are always happy about some water… TOILET ON THE TERRACE: We want to inform you, that there is a toilet on the terrace, which is closed and only used by Lina (she has her office in our house) and her two employees during the day, when they are on duty. So it may happen, that one of them will pass the terrace some times during the day! BED-LINEN-TOWELS: Bed linen and towels are changed weekly. If you would like to have it changed more often during your stay, we charge a fee of 5€ per bed and 3€ per towel set. This fee has to be payed directly to Lina as well as the fee for the final cleaning of 50€. Our direct neighbor to our right hand. Very good fish !! – Vangeli’s brother Theodoris is fisherman. We can also recommend very good „Saganaki-Cheese“ and „Marouli-Salad“ but also all the other stuff is very good. RESTAURANT OMEGA Mrs. Anastasia (Tasia) and her friend Georgios (George). They are from the terrace view left side. Very good home cooking, very good „Pasticcio“, a kind of Greece lasagna. Also all the other stuff is very good ! RESTAURANT DIONYSOS Dionysos serves very good food, if you like it, please ask for the „sucking pig“ – if he has one on the roast. Delicious ! ARIS / GYROS GRILL Directly behind the house – on the other side of the street, Aris makes best Gyros, Souvlaki and a special Greece sausage. Very good ! you should try From our direct neighbors, you can also order food and eat it on the terrace. Or you pick you something from ARIS or a pig from Dionysos and eat it at home. RESTAURANT TO KARABI After the harbor-pier in the first third of the beach, runned by TAKIS and his family. You can sit close to the water, Takis is doing nice lamb in cook paper with vegetables “lamb kleftiko”, my favorite lamb! Super! RESTAURANT ELENA Biggest restaurant in Finikounda (on the hill) – nice view, food al little bit more expensive than in the harbor, but not bad. ESTITATORIO THOMAS Located outside of Finikounda, around 1,5 km in direction of KORONI – easy to find – close to „Camping Loutsa“. Thomas will spoil you with very good, Mediterranean and Austrian kitchen, higher level than the most in the village. If you like, you can also preorder some Austrian food like a „Schnitzel„ or a special „Backhendl“ (kind of breaded chicken). Thomas also is well known for his delicious desserts! Open from 12.00. EVANGELISMOS 8km out of Finikounda in EVANGELISMOS (on the road to Methoni, opposite the supermarket, you go right and follow the signs for KAMARIA) there is a nice, typical Greek restaurant, next to the church. HERTA A Swiss woman is cooking twice a month in her house in KAMARIA a menu for an all-inclusive price. There are a many more restaurants in and around Finikounda, most of them also serve excellent food. But we didn’t all of them yet . At least we would present you the TERRA MARE in the middle of the beach. It opens at 09.00 o´clock in the morning for breakfast and closes at 01.00 by night. So you can have her breakfast, lunch or dinner or a cocktail in the evening. SUNCHAIRS / UMBRELLAS / WLAN / WIFI ON THE BEACH All sunchairs, umbrellas in the beach zone are FOR FREE. Every bar/restaurant has an own WLAN/ WIFI. Don’t hesitate to ask for the password!! Snacks and drinks you can order by the waiter. You can – you must not!!   EXCURSIONS: There are a lot of place around, you should or could visit: DESTINO BEACH CLUB (URL HIDDEN) Between Finikounda and Methoni after ca. 5 km. Fantastic beach club good food and drinks. Even a big swimming pool is here, the entrance for the club is free, for the pool-using is 2€, -- per person. METHONI (URL HIDDEN) (ca. 10 km away), Venetian fortress with a nice little tavern directly on the beach. PYLOS (URL HIDDEN) in another 10 km from Methoni there is this romantic, beautiful little city with a big square (Platia) in the middle, where you can have a nice frappee-coffee in the shadow under the trees. Nice shops you can find there too! Always worth a trip!
