ESCAPE THE CITY! Cozy Home on Hudson near NYC
Just 45 min. north of NYC in the Lower Hudson Valley, this cozy, art-filled waterfront home on the Hudson is the perfect getaway. Enjoy peace + quiet + plenty of privacy. Relax on the deck + enjoy the view w/ a good book, glass of wine or cup of joe. If you love nature, you can bike, kayak or hike + then soak in the hot tub while taking in the amazing setting (use of bikes + kayaks is included). You deserve it! Take some time to get away in a stunning nature setting. This house is very special. It's the gorgeous riverfront, but also the treehouse effect you get on the decks. It's the art that is everywhere- inside + out. And the abundant house plants. As one guest concisely put it, "This place has great energy." We think so too + we're sure you will love it! The house is in a secluded neighborhood of just a few dozen houses on the banks of the Hudson River. It's nestled between the old stone quarry and Haverstraw Beach State Park. It is a truly unique location. Many locals don’t even know about it! The house has two decks, both with amazing river views. On the upper deck you can fix yourself a meal on the grill and enjoy your choice of lounge or adirondack chairs. The lower deck has the same awesome views of the river, which you can enjoy while relaxing on the loveseat swing. But the main feature of the lower deck is the brand new 45 jet hot tub. Access is right outside your bedroom! Right out the back door is Haverstraw Bay- the widest point of the Hudson River. Imagine kayaking where Henry Hudson first moored the Half Moon. Paddle south and enjoy the beautiful scenery - miles of pristine parkland riverfront. In the autumn months, this is an especially stunning way to view the fall foliage! Prefer to bike, walk, or hike? Our street dead ends at the entrance to a riverside State Park. There are 7 miles of gorgeous walking/biking trails along the beautiful Palisades (trail is flat with some minor hills). Old WPA stone houses dot the trail along with a marker for the meeting between Benedict Arnold and the British. For the more adventurous, the Long Trail offers many miles of hiking with majestic river views. Are you a birder? There are two bald eagles nests within two miles of the house just inside the State Park. We also have Ospreys (a pair is in the process of building a nest visible by kayak) and several Great Blue Herons who make regular appearances. Four swans swim by on occasion. We’ve also seen (and heard!) Pileated Woodpeckers while walking along the riverside bike path. In the fall, enjoy the peak fall foliage! Go apple picking and enjoy fresh cider donuts, or pick out a pumpkin to carve at our local orchard - less than 1 mile from the house. More good stuff! We are located in the Lower Hudson Valley in Rockland County and that means just a short distance to many amazing nature parks and other attractions. Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain are just short drives away as are Dia Beacon, Storm King sculpture park, and West Point. If you like craft beer, award winning Industrial Arts Brewery is just 3 miles away, located in the Garner Historic District. Also, great shopping at the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets is just a 20 minute drive away. Want to commute to work or just go to NYC? A high speed ferry goes across the river to Ossining train station in just minutes. Then it's 45 minutes to NYC on Metro North (weekdays only) into Grand Central. We usually stay in a small guest house in the back corner of the property. Though you will see very little of us, we are available if you need anything or have any questions at all. You will have exclusive use of all the amenities in the listing- hottub, decks, grill, bikes, and the kayaks. Note that the kayak is available upon request only. Please message us at least 24 hours in advance. Dutchtown is a little hamlet. The river, a few houses and the park. Two miles away is the village of Haverstraw for restaurants, groceries, post office, library, etc. You will need a car or taxi to get to and from Dutchtown, but once there you can walk or bike to great trails in the state park. You can get groceries delivered from Wegmans! There are a few excellent take out places including a new Thai restaurant which is exceptional. There is also a high speed commuter ferry that gets you to and from the Ossining train station in just a few minutes. From there its another 45 minutes into New York City on the Metro North (weekdays only). Note- the ferry is not currently running due to COVID. 1. This house is a duplex. The top floor is a separate unit. Your space consists of two out of three floors - the ground floor and the lower level. You have exclusive use of the decks (one on ground floor and one on lower level), hot tub (on lower level), bicycles, etc. The top floor unit does not have access to any outdoor space. That unit has no deck and no access to the backyard. The only shared space is the entryway. If you prefer your own private entrance, the back door (on lower level) does have a key. We'd be happy to give you at the key if you request it. 2. The kayaks are available (free!) upon request with 24 hour notice. 3. There is a walkway down the hill to the river from the house, part stone path, part stairway. 4. We have one security camera outside, pointed at the front door. We sometimes get asked to elaborate because AirBnB does not provide details in their listings. We want to assure our guests that there are no security devices (video or audio) anywhere else on the property.
