The Barn @ Dormouse Cottage is a Grade II listed property situated in the picturesque rural village of Netherbury in West Dorset. Converted in 2020 into a self contained open plan bedroom suite with modern shower room, comfortable and contemporary seating area with Smart TV & WiFi, as well as a kitchenette with fridge, sink, kettle and toaster. It's an ideal location for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside, the nearby towns of Beaminster, Bridport and the stunning Jurassic Coast. Our guests have exclusive use of all the facilities in The Barn @ Dormouse Cottage which comprises a spacious split level living room and kitchenette/dining area, a modern shower room and bedroom. The Barn was converted into a self-contained guest suite in 2020. We listed the property and welcomed our first Airbnb guests on 12th April 2021 when the Covid Lockdown #3 restrictions were relaxed. +++NO OUTSIDE SPACE+++ It should be noted that we do not offer our guests any outdoor space but there are plenty of local walks from the property and pubs and restaurants with outdoor seating nearby. The beach is just a short drive away. Our guests have exclusive use of all of The Barn @ Dormouse Cottage. The Barn @ Dormouse Cottage is immediately adjacent to the cottage we live in and therefore we are available at most times. We aim to meet and greet all of our guests. If we are unable to do so for any reason, the key will be left in the secure key safe and our guests will be given the combination to access it. We will aim to introduce ourselves as soon as possible after your arrival. The Barn @ Dormouse Cottage is located in the heart of the quiet and picturesque West Dorset village of Netherbury. The property is Grade II Listed and is set in a Conservation Area. The surrounding countryside which is part of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offers a stunning landscape of rolling hills crisscrossed with a network of interesting footpaths and bridleways to explore. The Jurassic Coast is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the English Channel coast of Dorset. It stretches from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset, a distance of about 96 miles, and was inscribed on the World Heritage List in December 2001. Just a short drive of less than 7 miles from The Barn @ Dormouse Cottage you can explore this stunning coastline with its towering cliffs and shingle beaches. The cliffs made famous by the TV crime drama, Broadchurch can be found at West Bay where much of it was filmed. You’ll spot many of the properties in and around West Bay which were included in the drama as well as the infamous beach hut just along the coast at Eype. The highest point on the south coast can be found a few miles further west at Golden Cap. The world famous Chesil Beach, one of three major shingle beaches in the UK, stretches 18 miles from West Bay to the Isle of Portland to the east. The bustling market town of Bridport is just over 5 miles away. Bridport has a twice-weekly street market (Wednesday and Saturday) and monthly farmers' market. Bridport's arts scene has contributed to the town becoming increasingly popular with people from outside the locality. It has an arts centre, theatre, library, cinema and museum, and several annual events. The town centre vintage quarter on the St Michael’s Trading Estate is home to many Local artists in Bridport and they open up their studios as part of Bridport Open Studios each year. This part of town is also home to many antique and vintage dealers. Bridport has a great line up of independent retailers as well as high street names. The town has a Waitrose, Morrison’s, Lidl and Co-op supermarkets alongside a number of local bakers, butchers and other fresh food retailers and farmshops. Situated a short drive or walk (just under 2 miles) across beautiful countryside is the town of Beaminster which offers many of the amenities you may require during your stay including various stores selling locally sourced food as well as pubs and restaurants, including the fabulous Brassica restaurant. The popular seaside town of Lyme Regis is just under 16 miles away. We strongly recommend you have your own transport when you visit The Barn @ Dormouse Cottage. Parking is available on the quiet road outside the cottage. The nearest railway station is just over the county border in Somerset at Crewkerne. The station is served by South Western Railway services on the route from London Waterloo to Exeter St David’s. The station is just under 8 miles away. Pre-booked taxis are available from Bridport, Beaminster and Crewkerne. There is a limited bus service (6/6A) which runs between Bridport and Beaminster. This service passes within a mile of the village. Relying on traveling to and from The Barn @ Dormouse Cottage by bus is not recommended. We can provide a secure covered space should you arrive by bicycle, subject to prior arrangement. +++THERE ARE NO COOKING FACILITIES IN THE BARN+++ BREAKFAST - We offer complimentary breakfast provisions on arrival, if our guests are not planning to eat out at the many fabulous cafes and restaurants locally which provide a wide range of delicious breakfasts. We can give you our recommendations based on dietary requirements or if you just fancy having a fabulous sea view whilst you relax over a lazy breakfast with the papers! These provisions will include Bread, Butter, Jam, Cereal, Milk and Dorset Tea. You are more than welcome to bring with you or purchase locally other items to enjoy alongside these. For the coffee lover, we provide the cafetière, if you bring that special coffee you might need to kick start your day! The Barn has a sink, fridge, kettle and toaster and the crockery and cutlery you would require to prepare a leisurely breakfast. Please note there is not a cooker or microwave available for our guests to use in The Barn. Holidays are all about a break from the normal day to day chores and that should definitely include cooking, so go ahead and treat yourself to a great meal at one of the many fabulous restaurants, pubs or cafes we have in the area! We have a list of local eateries and ones we particularly like which we can email to you. Our favourite and nearest restaurant is Brassica in Beaminster. Other highlights are The Hive Beach Cafe and also The Seaside Boardinghouse at Burton Bradstock , The Clubhouse at West Bexington, Dorshi in Bridport, The Ollerod in Beaminster. Good pubs include Mark Hix’s latest venture The Fox Inn at Corscombe , The Anchor Inn at Seatown and the Pymore Inn in Bridport.
