WE FOLLOW AIRBNB COVID 19 CLEANING PROTOCOL* This spacious farmhouse, built in 1898, has been tastefully restored to accommodate modern living without sacrificing the charm of history. It is bright and airy, with open, spacious rooms and some smaller rooms for fun or quiet times. The house has a calming feel, with all the comforts of home. The farmhouse is a celebration of the richness of all things Virginia; its history, its vineyards, its fox hunts and the alluring charm of Old Virginia. STRICT NO PETS POLICY The house sits on 1 1/2 acres, with room to romp, yet conveniently located within five minutes of the historical town of Culpeper, a popular destination offering fine dining and shopping, antiques and local breweries. The three bedrooms are upstairs, with two Kings and one Queen sized bed. Two Queen air mattresses are available (UPON REQUEST for a fee), which can be placed in the game room and the parlor. The kitchen is magnificent and spacious and fully equipped for cooking. The setting sun casts a warm glow in the kitchen. The front porch is a favorite space with cozy furniture, tucked away from the road by a row of trees and hedges. It is great place for morning coffee, afternoon sweet tea or evening wine with friends and family. The back patio is also a nice retreat, to enjoy the outdoors. The driveway is paved and offers plenty of parking. We hope that you love our "Old Blue" house as much as we do. We have had many fun and memorable family gatherings here and look forward to more to come! Remember, Virginia is for lovers...of mountains, of wineries, of history, of finely bred horses, of great food, of getaways, of elegant old houses... Entire home and yard. Behind the garage is our property, which goes on through the woods to the fence. Most interaction is texting, but if you need anything during your stay, let us know and we will do our best to help make your stay as comfortable as possible. We live nearby, so it's not difficult for us to drop by. If guests have not been verified with Airbnb with a government issued ID (drivers license), we will stop by upon your arrival to verify your identity. Home is adjacent to a country store, separated from the road by a row of hedges and trees. It has a rural feel, but five minutes from town of Culpeper. This area offers so many varied activities locally, but even more within an hour or so. Wineries abound, Civil War battlefields, The Museum of Culpeper History, the Blue Ridge Mountains for hiking and driving along the Skyline Drive. Mount Pony (Packard Campus), an audiovisual branch of the National Library of Congress, is an archive of old and antique movies which are shown without charge. Charlottesville is an hour away, and our nation's capitol is seventy miles. Our favorite winery is Old House Vineyards which is about 8 miles away. Mooving Meadows is our favorite bakery and sells amazing locally roasted coffee beans. They also sell gluten free bread made of spelt. It is all organic and non GMO, but if you don't care about such things, then Knackals' is the local long time favorite for the sweet tooth bakery. Aldi is our favorite grocery store, Lidl is their newest competitor. I like Aldi because it is small and quick and has great prices. Lidl has good prices too and also has a bakery. Locals flock to Frost Cafe on the corner of Davis and Main. It has typical diner style food. Grill 309 is on Main Street and has great daily specials on the menu, and it is a popular place, offering craft beers. Our favorite Italian restaurant is Luigi's-best pizza, authentic Italian owners. Thai Culpeper is good and authentic Thai owners. Our favorite local breakfast place is Country Cafe-amazing food and inexpensive. Rock Water Park is a fantastic choice for kids of all ages-equipped with an amazing splash pad and ninja warrior course, as well as disc gulf course and walking path. Yowell Meadow Park has a skate park and paved path and attracts a lot of people, but if you want a quieter scene, Lenn Park is right across from Old House Vineyards and has nice playground equipment for children of all ages, including the little ones. A car is necessary to take full advantage of the richness of the area. There is plenty to see and do right in Culpeper, but consider the following for day trips. The farmhouse is: 72 miles from Washington, D.C. 45 miles from Charlottesville 19 miles from Sperryville (base of Skyline Drive) 35 miles from Fredericksburg 35 miles from Luray Caverns 36 miles from Manassas (Bull Run battlefield) 21 miles from Wilderness (battlefield) 25 miles from Chancellorsville (battlefield) 25 miles from Little Washington 15 miles from Castleton (music festival) 88 miles from Richmond 64 miles from Winchester 6 miles from Brandy Station (battlefield) We have installed outdoor surveillance cameras monitoring the driveway and exterior entrances. The use of the air mattresses is not covered by your booking fee unless you pay the extra person fee. If air mattresses are needed, even though the group has only 6 people or less, there is a charge of $10 per night, for each air mattress, which comes complete with bedding. If you need air mattresses with bedding, please submit a request before booking. I We do have shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion, so take note as you are packing. Our driveway turns off of a two-lane paved road, so small children should be supervised.
